No recall that I am aware of. How many miles on your car?

If you are still in warranty you are going to be fine. If out of warranty you are going to pay dealer to diagnose and then I think fuel pump is covered under emissions warranty, but double check that as the cost is pretty pricey. GL, keep us updated.

Do the symptoms im describing sound like a fuel pump issue ? My mechanic said that maybe because i've installed the catless down and an nm air intake....and havent gotten the car tuned...that the engine could be running lean or rich

I wont know for sure what the issue is until i tow it to the dealership and get it diagnosed...just curious as to why this happened....why the fuel pump would fail if it is the fuel pump

its your high pressure fuel pump. iv burned through 2 since buying my countryman. im also dumping mad fuel because boost... but they go bad and low rail pressure is the symptom. it puts you into reduced power so you dont lean out and have a detonation. they usually have a slow death and your car may go in and out of reduced power mode on different days/ temps.

Got the car back today....dealer replaced fuel pump....was driving to gas station to fill up tank because it was really low...odometer said i had like 75 miles left....stop at a red light....i hit the gas and it starts to sputter again....power loss message appears....i made it to the gas station right before it died.....filled up the tank...drove the car home....felt fine....sat idle in garage no shaking or sputtering...????.... i dont know what to think....maybe it wanted to die because it had very little gas and once i filled the tank its okay...if anyone can help me understand better what is happening i would really appreciate it...im hesitant to drive it...

There are a number of threads on this site discussing the effects of running the car low on fuel.

I just took my cm in a couple weeks ago and they replaced the belt because it wouldn't pass VA inspection. Car is 4 years / 35,000 miles and I HAD been getting the reduced power message occasionally but the dealership said it wasn't stored in the ECU anymore (???)

When i first got the car back from the dealership...they had replaced the hpfp....same one they replaced 2 years ago....a month after i had bought the car....power loss cel.....i guess the pumps are bad from the beginning....i drive from the dealership to the gas station near my house...2 blocks from the station....im sitting at the red light....car starts to sputter wants to die....i make it to the gas station....i fill up....turn car back on....car runs good....i took it on a small 40 mile trip....it was fine....yesterday...im driving downtown chicago....rush hour.....sitting at a red light for over a minute...the longest the car had sat idle since i got it back from the dealership...hit the gas....sputter...power loss cel....sounds like its struggling to accelarate....my exhaust is popping away....it dies....it would cut back on but wont go over 5 mph....got towed to dealer for second time...waiting to hear from them....SA says might be drive belt...which i doubt....im thinking its my fuel injectors have gone bad...not sure....
Anybody know if fuel injectors are covered under cpo warranty ?
Has anyone had this happen ?
Does what im describing sound like an injector issue or can it be something worse ?
Really appreciate any thoughts you guys might have...
Thank u....

I got the car back from the dealership...this being the second time i had towed it in....this time they replaced the low pressure fuel pump...it was covered...thank god....so far so good....have driven to and from work for a week now...it runs like nothing ever happened to it....but im pretty sure that the fuel pumps will go bad again....my warranty expires in one year....cpo.....mini says they might not warranty me again because car has an exhaust and intake...thats it....
Anyone have any suggestions how to extend the life of the pumps....i know one is to not let the fuel level below 1/4 of a tank....ever.....is there an aftermarket pump that can replace the stock pump....one that wont break after 2 years....

To rightfully deny a warranty claim they would have to show the modification contributed to the failure.

Now in practice they can deny everything and you would have to contest it and possibly sue. MINI did get reprimanded recently by the US government for such behavior.

I do believe there is something going on with the fuel pumps. We just had our R57 in as we got a yellow mil light a couple of weeks ago. Did not experience any sputters/low power, car was running fine aside from the light. They said the HPFP was bad and needed to be replaced. Car is a 2012 at about 53k miles, so it is about 5k out of warranty, and they did not charge a penny for it and we did not have to say a thing for that. My 2013 R60 is running well at just over 50k.

Some not letting fuel get lower to suck in anything else the filter does not catch but no aftermarket at this point yet. I will let you know first thing if it comes out.

1 month...

Ive had the car back now for a month and a half and been driving it to work everyday...it has been okay...i can really tell the car has new pumps...when i let off the gas it starts going on its own as long as im not on a slope...before the pumps were replaced the car wouldnt move until i gave it gas....i havent let the fuel even come close to half a tank....keeping it full from now on....all the time....
