Cruise control malfunction indicator lamp. Extreme low engine power.

Help my mini is my daily driver and its broke. and i need your help.

i have an '08 MCS

Tonight on my way home from work on the freeway i'm going about 60Mph and i notice the engine stumble. it did it a few times then I get an icon i've never seen before, it was a gauge with an exclamation point on the right side. it showed up in the display in the middle of the tachometer. the car immediately lost almost all power. it wouldn't rev past 1200Rpm and i couldn't get it faster than 20mph. i got off the freeway a limped to a parking lot. i looked in the owners manual and it said the lamp was a 'cruise control malfunction indicator' and to have the system checked. while sitting there i let it idle a while and it idled @ 1200rpm and was a throbbing idle. i shut it off and popped out the fob. then reinserted the fob and restarted the car. everything seemed normal. it rev'ed like it should but as soon as i started driving the warning lamp comes on and power cuts. I know i'm behind on the walnut blasting but up till now the only problem has been hard starting. im thinking maybe a bad throttle body as the cruise would be tied to it buy the computer. any ideas at all would be great. i'm over 100 miles from the mini stealership and would like to get it fixed in my drive if i can. thank you all in advance.

First thing to do is plug into the OBDII port and read any fault codes that may be present.

Edit * Get it carbon blasted or at least scoped to see how bad. Is it very cold where you are ? Maybe a sticky throttle body ?

He said he is behind on carbon blasting, not that he just had it done.

thanks for the responses. I used my OBD Link to pull codes and all that show up for me are the normal (for me) random miss fire codes. nothing else. so no help there. i even took the Mini out with the Code reader running to try and see something but no luck.

I did say i was behind on carbon blasting but i'm now not too sure as the car had a complete top end rebuild about 20-25000 miles ago by previous owner according to the shop i found through the Carfax i pulled when i bought it. so it shouldn't need it quiet yet.

I am starting to think it's probably the TPS on the throttle body. but i'm taking it to a local specialist shop tomorrow to have them scan/diagnose it. that in it's self kind of pisses me off as i have never taken any of my cars to any repair shops.but tech wise i'm on the back of a learning curve and don't want to waste time/money hunting for the problem.
