Melted Radiator Hose

Just trying to figure out what all I'll need to replace - aside from the hose since it's now leaking.

So issue is the a small portion like maybe 2" of hose was burned from touching the horn of the sc. But I'm not entirely sure what caused it to get so hot to burn the hose. No coolant leaks and I never over heated at any point.

She's been sitting for a few days as I heard this high pitch whine and then burning rubber - wasn't the pulley though so took a few days to find the hose. The whine was gone when I moved her today.

Water pump toast?
92k miles.

Thanks guys n gals.

Sounds like the hose was just mis-installed...a rubber hose the touches most anything will burn/chafe and fail, especially if it is hot...

I'd replace the hose, most likely use new clamps, and pay careful attention to fit...fresh coolant would be the way I would go...MINI/BMW blue coolant is pretty cheap..just dilute with distilled water as indicated on the bottle...
One guess..is the engine moving around lots due to failed motor mounts?
Sometimes where a hose gets close to another item, a chafe strip of some type will be added...a strip if rubber from the old hose where it might rub or a strip of silicone rubber fabric is common...

Nope no movement. Mounts are all good.
Not sure why the hose suddenly decided to get close and friendly with hot things.

It's all good though. Gives me reason to order some snazzy colored hoses. ;D

Yea, it would have to be close to the heat or moved out of place. Do you have pics ?

I believe these are original to the car. Maybe it was just their time to go?
Anyway to make sure this doesn't happen again?

Did you check the motor mounts ? Lower engine mount? For movement. Looks really close.

Yeah. It's still good.
And no major movement when the hood is up and shes on.

Think hitting something like a pothole or crossing a railway would make enough movement to cause them to touch?

Agree, it may be best to replace and be attentive on install. If there is no obvious issues that you can tell, see how the fitment of it is and keep an eye on it. Radiator hoses here if needed.

Got the replacement hose yesterday.

Figured while I switch out the piece I could flush the old stuff out and put new in.
I can't seem to find a breakdown of how to flush the system.
Does anyone by chance know how?

Thanks.

Lowered the subframe to take off the control arm ears... Powerflex everything about to be installed! Thanks to Pelican Parts for the great how-to!
