R53 oil under the ignition coil

So I put an oil catch can on my 03 r53 a week or two ago and found a little oil under the ignition coil, which I figured that had gotten there from little spills while filling the oil, so I cleaned it up and didn't think twice about it. However, I looked under the hood today, and found oil under there again, and I haven't had the hood up since for any reason. Any idea where this oil is coming from? the threads that hold the ignition don't go all the way through the valve cover do they?

I was going to say = valve cover cracked.

Updated part for the valve cover, they just changed suppliers and the texture is a bit different but looks much better then my old one. 11128658461

If you decide to replace the valve cover yourself, this DIY tech article should be of some assistance. Good luck!

haha, I ordered it from ECS yesterday and it shipped today. I used the chat feature, and they said that it would work with my PCV valve that is held in with a bolt (pre-7/04 build) vs the one that threads in. I'm a bit nervous about it cause the picture doesn't show a bolt hole, but I guess if it's changed, maybe the picture hasn't been updated.

and I did enjoy the DIY, it was helpful. I pulled my current one off to try and seal it til the new one arrives.

Just saw this and the newer valve covers were updated and have to use the screw in version.
" This valve cover is for a screw in style PCV valve (ES#18656), please check existing prior to ordering. "

We have the valve covers in stock at a new lower price.

Thanks for the reply, you guys did end up sending me the wrong cover/giving me the wrong info on the chat help, but I think you guys ended up sending the the updated PCV valve gratis, so it was hard to be too upset about it. Though I think I prefer the original design, the screw in PCV valve is hard to get snug enough to seal, and given that I had to replace my valve cover because I overtightened the coil bolts, I'm a little hesitant to crank hard on that plastic.

Sorry that happened via the chat.

You are welcome on the reply, i just saw this going through some threads and thought I would make sure things were ok. Glad in the end it worked out. Yes those updated ones you just snug the PVC. MINI updated the design and we did not find out till we updated the photos and stock. Its been noted now. The new ones do look alot smoothing the plastic casting vs my old one. Over time the old ones get brittle and crack or the nuts spin.
