Has anyone ever had to repair the end shaft on the charger where the pulley goes on? I previously had a V1 alta pulley on and the pulley damaged the shaft. It's worn pretty bad. I mounted a new V2 Alta pulley and all seemed well for a few days now it sounds like it's just spinning on the shaft. I don't get any boost. In fact I can't even hear the supercharger, just the noise of a spinning pulley. What can I do to fix the shaft ?

 

We do a complete rebuild when we see this issue.

 

But everything is on the charger is fine.

 

Since removing and replacing a SC is about 5+hrs labor, and 100$ or so in gaskets, WHY fix a part that might be 90% worn out....remember, a SC is a wear item, it gets less efficient as it wears...
Then add in an week or more of downtime if you wait for your sc to be fixed, and two way express shipping....think it makes more sense to just do an rebuilt sc as an exchange, and start off fresh....remember, sometimes the most expensive way to fix something is by going cheap!! That's cause you pay to do it two times!!

Less than $500? No one to my knowledge.

 

Well i don't have much support and I'm still establishing myself being a student and all so I may just permanently weld the pulley to the shaft. Bring on the hate.

 

Shaft is steel...pulley is probably aluminum. Or is it steel? You could probably put a few small tacks on it as long as you don't get the shaft too hot and melt any of the oil seals.

You might be able to find a local bearing hose that carries those thin sleeves that are made to slide over worn shafts and repair them. I think you put epoxy on the shaft and slide it on.

Also..you could drill right thought the pulley and shaft and put a pin in it, that would probably hold really well also.

All of these are probably still just going to be temporary fixes....but it's worth a try.

Have you searched around on ebay, auto salvage yards, or other places to find a used supercharger?

 

I'm looking at those shaft sleeves now. Still searching around for a used charger under $500 think I may have found a shop that will rebuild for that amount. The shop is out of Florida

Could just replace the nose assembly on the SC with a used one!

 

Try a different brand pulley. The split collar type have issues that the tapered cone type ones do not have. Wouldn't hurt to throw a dap of green loctite 640 on there.

 

you won't get a quality rebuild for that. you might find a used one if you look hard enough for that price, but not a rebuild.

 

This could work for your damaged snout shaft.

I've just bought and fitted the V2 Alta pulley which they claim will work on tapered shafts.. Guess mines is tapered beyond its tolerance
