Is this pipe important?

Is this pipe important?

So I just replaced my boxed up air intake on my '09 JCW. In the process I guess I somehow "unattached" the fresh air intake hose that comes from my front grill back to the air intake. My options are to 1) have the this replaced 2)glue/tape it back on or 3)take it off completely. I'm wondering because I'm not sure how much difference that pipe makes anyway. With a closed box air intake, I can see its value. With an open air intake, I'm not sure it does much. Any advice? Thanks!

You should be able to reattach without tape or glue. Unless its broken. In any case I'd make sure you have one, that way you're getting cool air to your intake. Otherwise its just sucking up heated air.

On an unrelated note. I just shifted into 5th with that post.

Believe you are talking about # 8 , this snaps into #9 which can sometimes snap the tabs. That unit snaps into the side of the core support near the headlight . Other end of #8 snaps into the bottom , then twist and lock into the bottom ogf the airbox. If you have the factory airbox or JCW kit closed airbox these have to be connected to funnel the air. In aftermarket it would still funnel cool air back there, especially when driving down the road.

Thanks for the info. The disconnect is between 6 and 7. It looks more like a tear than just a disconnection. Mini wants almost $400 to replace and install it.

Removing and replacing that pipe is really easy, I've taken it off a couple times. Find one on ECStuning, in the marketplace, or on ebay. $400 is absurd.

+1 , its not that hard, the pieces and connection diagram is listed above. The trick to #6 ( which is the hardware ) for #1 to #7 is to lift the airbox out a bit and tilt it above 90 degrees line up the end of #7 insert it into the bottom slot and turn the box forward and twist and lock that piece.

#7 elbow tube.

For #7 to #8 , #8 to pinch the tube with your hand inwards on the sides, then insert the tabs into the tube to #7.

Oh God, it's easier than changing your oil. Just buy the part and install it yourself, I can't believe the dealer wants $400 for something as simple as that! It's a 20 second job.
