Help Me Stop The Noise
Help Me Stop The Noise
I took my car in to the dealer to have them chase down a few noises: the a-pillars/windshield surround is a cacophany of plastic-on-plastic squeaks on any but the smoothest of roads, there's a weird creak in the top's mechnism behind my left shoulder and the top bounces when I hit bumps.
After leaving it with them overnight, and them comparing it to another Roadster on their lot, the diagnosis came back: Everything normal. They all do that.
So, since it's not going to be covered under the warranty, what can I do on my own to quiet these rackets?

I have found that 3M style sticky back ( peal and stick ) felt work in some locations. Soft side of velcro stripes. You can get it in thick pile and softer pile. Works great on the plastic on plastic connections, also most of the time it matches and not seen because its dark black. Cut to fit in locations.

For the top mechanism where is it located?

Thanks , so its not a plastic on plastic. Looks like might be because the top is down and just setting there. When the R52 MINI Convertible first came out they had some interior cracks and noise. Which was fixed mostly by felt spacers and Velcro backing by dealerships . That's also the main pivot point with the top folded on itself , it its might be a seal on the pivot. Do you have an actual picture. I also check to see nay TSB' s and I don't see any yet for the R59 top for that.
Thanks
Thanks

Yeah, that sound is much more metal-like. Much more substantial than the noise the plastic trim pieces make.

Mine does. Drivers door latch rattles on rough roads, get the same roof down noise that the OP is describing, and on really rough roads some other misc squeaks I can't pinpoint. I take it as it being a convertible and it has some flex. It's not harsh, loud, or annoying: just there. Much quieter than your typical chevy/honda or anything else I've been in. As a matter of fact I didn't even notice them until I started reading posts about them and then listening carefully. Just go faster and the sounds will disappear into wind noise! LOL

Mine didn't either, for a while. But because they were able to hear similar noises in another one on their lot, they're refusing to cover it under warranty. Which is disappointing.
On the dash/ column parts try the felt / Velcro trick. Were you able to get a video of picture of the squeak area ?
Thanks
Thanks
