Backup light Switch on '06 MCS

ok so i have an 06' MCS USA 6speed and my reverse lights wont come on. i have replaced both bulbs and checked fuses to no avail. this has led me to the conclusion that the switch is bad.

info on "Jezebel"
  1. 06' Mini Cooper S
  2. hardtop
  3. left hand drive
  4. 6 speed
  5. Later year Manufacture date

so can anybody provide me with pictures and/or info of -
  1. where its located
(i know its visible behind one of the front wheels on the tranny just dont know where/which)
  2. what it looks like
  3. what tools i'll need (sizes of wrenches, etc.)
  4. what to expect (fluids leaking out, etc.)
  5. is programming needed?
I know this has been mentioned in several threads however i have yet to find a single posting with all this info on it.

thanks guys/gals i appreciate any info and pics

Some of the European cars needs the computer to be reset by the Dealer to recognized the new lights.

07 23117527716 BACKUP LIGHT SWITCH 0.02 1 $17.27
Yep that should be it, I don't know if you can reach it from the FL wheel or taking the airbox out but the airbox will take longer

Check out figure # 16 on the Pelican parts article

thanks gents.

this is a project im not particularly excited about tackling.

i have even considered getting some aftermarket LEDs and running a toggle up front (my model does not have fog lights so i have to open spots) and just manually turning on and off for my reverse lights. then i also have the option of freaking out tailgaters :D

Good luck, I would just change the switch it shouldn't be that difficult with basic tools

That's the part, here is another picture.

Back Up Light Switch # 7 in that diagram above.

Scroll to post #11 for the DIY, they jacked it up and went through the wheel well, I would recommend a solid jack stand on top of that. Not just the emergency lift.

Thanks and good luck.

It must have been unpluged or something ? See if you can find the wire down there or maybe hanging under the airbox. Have you done work in that area before and maybe it came unpluged ?

Thanks.

Ok, did the lights work before? Or you just noticed that they weren't working? Are you the original owner? Whenever you do a clutch or tranny work you have to unplug it and it's very easy to forget to plug it back in, it has to be tucked in the somewhere maybe around the AC lines or something

i was just recently notified that the lights weren't working. i am the 3rd owner.

i think i need to come down from the top or put it up on the lift but i agree it has to be there somewhere

Good, the good news is that chances are that you won't have to get a new switch, so if you didn't have any work done on it chances are that the PO did and they disconnected it and obviously forgot to plug it back in.
Yeah lifting the car should help you locating it. I hope that you find it and at Least you now know what to look for.
Good luck
