I finished the installation tonight on my Unichip and found that at least in my 12/03 build date 2004 MCS, the Unichip module interfered with the action of the windshield wiper linkage, when the module was installed as per the instructions, and as pictured in several links in various forums. It was not interfering when the wipers were at rest, only when swithced on.

I ended up moving the module about 1/2 inch towards the front of the car to get this necessary clearance.

So before you stick the Velcro strip onto the module, turn on the wipers first (with a clean windshield, since you can't hinge the wipers away from the glass with the hood open!), and slowly move the module around under the cowl until you can no longer feel the bumping from the wiper linkage while the wipers are on. Then with a pencil, ouline onto the module the leading edge of the cowl. Mount the Velcro strip just behind this line.

You probably will have to drill another hole in the mounting flange of the module as well, to allow the module to extend forward this 1/2" or so.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Did you hear the wipers hitting the module?

I haven't noticed any problem with the wipers on. Later, I'll check to make sure that there's no obstruction.

LetsMotor0_0- thanks for the info! I installed my UNIchip a few days ago
and didn't check clearance on the wiper... sure enough, it rubbed and so
I drilled another hole on the UNIchip's tab about 10mm towards the car.
ie: UNIchip sticks out farther out from under the gutter area.

no problems now!

thanks again..would've sucked if i found out actually while in the rain!

Glad that it worked out! My case was scored up too, and I also had to drill a new hole.

I just checked and yup, there's a clearance issue! I moved the module forward and drilled the additional hole to fit the screw. Thanks, guys for posting about this problem!

Yep - I had the same problem. Looks like it is about 1/8" too far back. Drilled the new hole and reinstalled without a problem!

I'm really leaning towardst this ECU upgrade. Is there a UNICHIP installer in Northeast Massachusetts (for when I want to get post-UNICHIP mods) ??

Visit http://www.unichip.us for more info. Contact Jack at (866) 643-7400 or (503) 640-7465 to locate a tuning shop with dyno and qualified tech in your area.
