I've had my MC about 3 weeks, and so far I'm getting about 300 to 500 Smiles per gallon, 125 to 200 gawks per gallon, and approximately 25 "What's that??" per gallon. Miles per gallon......who cares!!

My computer says I was getting 25mpg in the beginning, steadily increasing to 29mpg now with 1150 miles on the clock. This was in a 24 hour period of mostly highway crusing with some backroad gearchanging to vary engine speed per the manual's instructions. Hopefully it will continue to improve, but I won't be able to hold back my right foot much longer...

MCS lots of stop and go traffic. I have a habit of going from 4th to 6th gear. So far I average 32 MPG. Just changed to Amsoil 0W-30 and foam air filter so I will report after a few tanks. One key is to shift out of first early and slowly decelerate on inclines. The Auto Airconditioner helps!!
Anyone notice a difference in octanes?

I got 16 mpg on the last tank, all city. On tree tanks I averaged 18 mpg, mostly in the city. on the highway I got around 33.
The best I can do with a full tank is around 180 miles in the city and this is not on main street.

So far I'm not happy with the fuel economy. I've got a MC with only around 1100 miles, so I'm hoping that part of the problem is that my driving style has been more inconsistent (gears, rpms) than usual in order to comply with the break-in recommendations. Anyway I'm only getting around 18-20 around town, and low 30s on the highway. Yesterday I reset the computer while on a fairly level stretch of highway, drove around 10-12 miles at 65 mph, trying deliberately to use the gas pedal as efficiently as possible, and the computer was only showing around 34 mpg.

My roommate's '89 Civic with 200k gets easily 10 mpg more than this car.

It seems like the computer adjusts to your driving style through time. (Nav Compoter that is?) It's a little more accurate at each tank of gas. My last tank I got 360 miles!

Best Millage was right after Fill up following Policeman 5.94 L/100Km - 47 MPG
Worst was In town all tank - 11.22 L/100Km - 25.2 MPG

I have 3500 mi. on my mini now. I cruised for one hour at 70 MPH using the cruise control on the interstate here in the rolling hills of central Kentucky and acheived an astounding 38.7 MPG based upon the trip computer. I started the calculations once I reached 70MPH and didn't have to vary from 70MPH for the entire one hour test run. My car is a MINI with a 5 speed and 16 inch run flats. Calm day with an ambient temperature of 62 degrees.

2000miles
I got around 17-18mpg from each full tank and about 180-190 miles mostly city driving and heavy traffic (arrrgghhhh Boston).. I keep resetting the mpg counter with each fill up.

Went to NY a week ago and got around 29-30 mpg mostly highway.. drops fast to 23-24mpg from driving around in manhattan....and got 29-30 mpg after I reset the mpg counter on the way back to Boston.

This number seems correct, but I think there is slight software glitch or miss calculation. I'm just wondering, why is my mini consume the same mpg with my 2000 323i wagon in the city? anybody has the answer?

True, but I have been surprised in this thread at how well the supercharged versions have been faring with their gas mileage.
I had a '97 Civic coupe for 3 years and rarely got more than 30 mpg, it was usually around 26. It was rated at 127 hp. Maybe it's because the Mini's are lighter.

I average 25-26 mpg on most tanks of gas. Mostly "non-highway" miles but not a lot of stop and go city. Most miles are city but not stop and go....

BTW, helmi_45, it's Dark Silver, not grey!

I just finished my second tank of gas on my cooper s. In mixed city / hwy driving, I am getting 300 miles a tank. In a 13.2 gallon tank, that is averaging about 22.5 mpg. That definitely doesn't seem like the 25/33 posted on the window sticker.

I have a lead foot so I only get about 260 miles on 3/4 of a tank. I don't let it get below that so I estimate about 300 miles if I run it on fumes. If I drove slower (60-65), my milage would be better. This is mostly highway driving with some bumper to bumper. To me it seems that the milage is no better (or worse) than my Corolla.
But I really don't care. I'm too busy enjoying myself to think about it.

MCS, traveling primarily in NYC (I had a Sentra here for a summer internship, and would play, for you old timers', Husker Du's 'Dead Set on Destruction' over and over while looking for parking; now I am more laid back) and north of the city, the comp is telling me around 26-29 overall (93/94 octane). When I am doing any highway driving, it tends to be 70-85mph. And I always forget about 6th gear. Hell, I forget about 5th gear much of the time, it sounds to sweet. I also drove most of my first 1500 (of 2000) miles with the sunroof open, and it does seem that you get a minor amount of drag and resistance from airflow with it open. Any time I get the chance, I accelerate hard (5-6K before upshifts through 4th gear). Considering all of this, I am more than pleased with the MPG.

Hey all

I just started a new thread about my fuel economy computer, the odometer, and the speedometer all being wrong - kinda ties into this discussion. I am wondering if some of the fuel economies posted here are wrong, because people have trusted the computer. Mine is off by 8-10% - pretty significant!

If I'm just hopping about for little in-town trips of a few miles or less, it's around 20mpg.

For 30-mile commutes, mostly highway, it's about 28mpg.

I generally drive pretty fast, and have been playing around a lot, so to be expected. I don't know how accurate it is, but you can reset the consumption while driving, and watch it recalculate anew how much you're using.

Jeff
