Various warning lights come on at times (svc engine soon, flat tire [false alarm], EML, DSC etc). Lights coming on assoc'd with loss of power. Sometimes it stalls & won't re-start for about 5 minutes.

Transmission feels odd but maybe I'm not used to CVT.

The car is less that 2 weeks old and has less than 600 miles on the odometer. Mini of Manhattan says they ran "diagnostics" and found nothing wrong. I'm awaiting a specialist from Mini of America to look at car.

Any out there have similar experience??? :???:

First, welcome to MCO. Sorry that its under such ill conditions.

You have quite a few dealers in the area (at least compared to Colorado where we have 1 dealership and the next nearest is 600 miles away), so you might try to see if another dealership can diagnose the problem better.

That is troubling though. Please keep us posted as to MINI's help in the matter.

My 03 "S" is having the same issue. It has happened twice now. I haven't taken her in for diag, but if it keeps up I will. I haven't noticed any performance loss, but my tire light and my DCS light came on. It happened at lunch and then I parked the car and got back in it after work and it was still on. I started driving home and the tire light went off but the other one stayed on. I drove over to the dealer to ask him and when he came out to the car, the light was now off. (figures!) Anyway, it happened again. Basically the same thing, they came on and then later went off the next time I started the car.

one other thing. Is anyone else having a problem with the gear shift *** coming off. It keeps poping off on me. I can't believe that there is not a setscrew or something.

Motor On! it's a mini world after all!

Thanks for advice. But car is brand new. If dealer can't fix it they should give me another one.

Meanwhile, last night I gave a Mini tech permission to take car home & back to shop in AM. Still awaiting word from 'em.

I know this may sound simplistic, but my dealer told me to make sure the gas cap was on properly, turned to a closed klick, or the engine management system, even after one mistake could throw the system into havoc. One would imagine though a diagnostic ckeck would have found this out.
Goog luck

Mini now saying they think trouble is with the transmission (CVT) or the computer or both. They gonna drain and refill the transmission fluid THREE times & reprogram the "transmission computer." If that doesn't help they'll have to replace the transmission.

After dithering around with my brand new Mini for 8 days, Mini of Manhattan now saying that they replaced a transmission "control module" or some such, to no avail. Today is Friday. They gonna order a new transmission on Monday and hope to get car back to me "mid-week." I love the Mini but all this has sucked the joy out of the new car experience!

Thanks for offer. I imagine it is quite rare for a brand new defective Mini to even reach the USA. I would have liked a faster fix from dealer but at least they're paying for a rental car while mine is in shop. At $50 per day for 2 weeks its gonna run 'em at least $700.
As it happened, the (ill fated) Mini had only been on the road for a few hours when a car on the L.I.E. threw up a pebble which put a small "star" in my windshield. It would be a nice gesture from Mini of Manhattan if they repaired it before finally returning the car later this week.

Check for the following issues: I have not experienced any of your issues as yet...

I have had my coolant tank replaced twice (leaky seam)
My front end wheel bearings replaced @ 10K miles (noisy and rough)
My steering rack replaced (creaking sound when turning the wheel)
Toggle Switch panel replaced (mounting bracket broke behind the fascia)
Both tail lights replaced (moisture)

In addition, Mini does not give a loaner car and my dealer does not offer a courtesy shuttle after 6PM when I get off work. I have had to take taxi's and bum rides from work mates for 5 trips to the dealer so far.

I love my Mini and I wouldn't tradeit for the world, however, it's heart brekaing to have to take it in every 3 or 4 weeks for a 2 day stay to fix stupid issues.

I wish ownership was more convenient

Bigbud:

Demand a new car, period.

Stick to your guns. You bought a new car, not a "nearly new car" with a refurbished or replaced transmission in it already.

So, story has happy (more or less) ending. They: recaliberated steering angle sensor ('twas slightly off), drained and refilled transmission fluid FOUR times (dunno why), relpaced gearbox interface unit (GIU), and installed updated software. Took 'em exactly 2 weeks to do this and they charged BMW about $2,000 for warranty work.
Car now running OK and warning lights haven't come on.
But they didn't fix the windshield's star. Oh well, its still a blast to drive!
