2010 MCS R56 Rear Fog Lamps

I'd like to install rear fog lamps in the empty slots in my bumper. Is this something I can do myself? What parts are needed and where is the best place to purchase them? Are there any existing threads on this?

Here are the lights:
http://www.waymotorworks.com/rear-fo...s-r56-r57.html

The switch:
http://www.waymotorworks.com/rear-fo...7-r58-r59.html

and the panel if you want it for the icon:
http://www.waymotorworks.com/rear-fo...tch-panel.html

The parts are pretty easy to install, but after you put it all in you will need to have the car coded to make them work. You will have to have the dealer or a shop with the coding ability do it.

If you're just worried about filling the holes and not having them actually function as fog lights, you could just get the lights and the add-a-brake light kit from Outmotoring and have them function as extra brake lights.

I installed mine using the add a brake light kit. Install was a breeze. They act as extra brake lights and running lights.

My only worry is installing the toggle switch and new switch panel. Does anyone know of any threads that show how this is done on a 2010 MCS R56?

It's not a trivial task, requires removing a significant portion of the dash. There is definitely a how-to out there but I can't put my hands on it right now. Then you have to pay the dealer to activate it which is $100+ (requiring a re-flash).

edit : found it - https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...-retrofit.html

First thing I'd do it look and see if the wiring for the fog lights is even present. BMW/MINI started cutting all sorts of corners in the 2010 year. Mine doesn't have the fog light wiring or the factory alarm wiring.

Well, The wiring for the rear fogs was there. It was under the ends of a piece of high density foam between the bumper and the body.

I used a pick tool (found a thread on here that showed it) to remove the plastic toggle cover. What I thought was going to be an all afternoon job took about 5 minutes.

Thanks to the users of this forum for their help!!

Anyone know what Mini charges to hook up the computer and activate the toggle?
I'm going to call Crown Mini, Richmond, VA later today.......

I have Rear Fogs on the Clubman and want to convert to brake/running lights. Anyone have directions on the correct wiring?

Check either gominigo.com or possibly outmotoring for the install. I believe outmotoring carries the wiring and they might have the diagram for you.

i want the fog lights to act as extra brake lights, illuminating red when the headlights are on, and getting brighter when i hit the breaks. will each light flash with the corresponding blinker as well?

also, does the add a break light kit come with instructions for wiring?

lights:
http://www.waymotorworks.com/rear-fo...s-r56-r57.html

add a brake light kit:
http://www.outmotoring.com/add-a-bra....html?&cat=339

thanks!

I don't believe they will flicker as directional lights. They will stay on as daytime running lights and brake lights. The wiring kit will come with instructions so you will know which wires to tie into on the harness from the tail lights. I know on my 2010 the wiring was not the same color codes from each side. The instructions color coded the wiring but it was only for one side of my car. Just make sure you use the same pin #s from each harness.

Thank you very much.

That's good, i use my blinkers a lot and having the fogs flash too would be a little to "flashy" for my taste. :P

My 09 MCS is currantly at the dealer getting warrenty work and also codeing for the rear fogs that I installed. $122.50 for the dealer to reflash. Even if you dont hook the lights up, just installing the lights makes a world of differance in the apperance of the car, you will not be dissapointed either way.

When I ordered mine, I didn't include the rear fogs but when I wanted them activated, everything was there, lights, wiring, etc. All Way had to do was install the toggle and do some computer stuff.
