looks like a lamp out warning, turn on your lights and harzards and walk around the car, then have someone step on the brakes. if none of these are an issue check your front and rear fog lights. liscence plate lights and interior lights. that is if that's a lamp out light which it does look like

That is a lamp out warning.
I got one last week.
Scared me to death because it's very similar to the transmission warning.
In my case it was a front daytime running light.
As I had a new lamp on hand it only took moments to replace and the warning light went out immediately.
Hope that helps!

I just know that I don't want a warning light for the transmission coming on.
The lamp out light made me jump out of my skin.

2009 Manual - Indicator and Warning Lamps - starts on page 128 and runs thru page 138.
On page 137 - 5th section down shows that exact symbol:
Cause: Bulb of exterior Lighting System Failed
What to do: Have exterior lighting checked as soon as possible
I.E. start car and check all light bulbs. Find the one that is out and replace it. Instructions are in the manual how to do change most of them

That's funny. I picked up my Mini on January 30 last year, and the first time the temp dropped below 37 and the warning chimed and the snowflake popped up I about died. Totally didn't expect it. Thought my Mini was yelling at me for taking a turn too fast(which I did)

It happened to me last week too. The body shop failed to hook up one of the tail lights correctly, the first of many problems, and so the light and warning gong sounded. It scared me too. I see that someone posted the page number above. I had to hunt through the symbols to find it.
Giggles, that snowflake freaked me out too! I immediately pulled over and looked through the owners' manual to find out what it meant. I'm glad I'm not alone!

Bulb-out warning with a perfectly fine bulb
It began irritating me to see that warning sign every time I start my Mini. I was able to figure out which light bulb had caused the warning light to come out and even bought the replacement bulb. However, when I removed it from the socket, the bulb was just fine. I screwed it back in and the warning light disappeared....only for an hour or two. The bulb sits tightly in the socket and the socket is not loose when in the light assembly. It is a p21w bulb and it's a parking light (the top one in the taillight assembly). I drive 2007 MCS and was wandering if anyone else have had this issue in the past? Thanks

If you don't see any lights out, smack the side of the front bumpers near the parking light bulbs in the "fog light" assemblies. If the message doesn't go away after cycling the key on and off after jarring the parking light bulbs in their sockets, there is a software update for many earlier cars (pre late '10) for an erroneous light out message. The car thinks it has rear fog lights out when in fact the car doesn't even have them installed. The fault description will even state the fault is for an E90.

I had a front parking light that was bad and caused that symbol to come on. Strange thing was it would sometimes show and other times it wouldn't. I could not find which light was out as the break in the filament was hairline and would fuse back together once it got warm. A rough bump finally caused it to go out and replaced it. The snow flake was an interesting one first time it popped up for me as well.
