Used 05 MCS Repair priority suggestions
Used 05 MCS Repair priority suggestions
I purchased an 05 MCS about 6 weeks ago, 98k miles. I got a recommendation from a neighbor with an old 3 series for a good local shop, then took it in for an thorough inspection to generate a laundry list of possible repairs (plus the SES light was on, #6 below). Let me know if you have any thoughts on priority, DIY or not, or anything else that comes to mind.
1. Battery failed after charging. It is original, will replace immediately (Costco, $65).
2. Brakes 10mm. Not sure what the minimum is, they did not recommend replacement, need to look this up. They were replaced around 60k per seller.
3. Valve cover gasket leaking, possible oil pan gasket also. Bought the Bentley Service Manual, plan on doing this myself in a week or two.
4. Front control arm bushings torn. I don't think I want to do this myself. $600 parts and labor.
5. power stearing hoses leaking at reservior - plan to do these myself in a few weeks.
6. O2 sensor fault - under warranty to 100k, taking it to the dealer next week.
7. they recommend brake flushing, coolant flushing, and alignment. I usually do an alignment only when I feel it is necessary based on driving. Also, with torn front control arm bushings, I'm not sure it makes any sense to get an alignment done. I will verify the fluids are up-to-date with OEM recommendations, I'm pretty sure they are.
Thanks for any input, insight, and advice.

Thats not an unreasonable list for an MCS with 98K. Do the control arm bushings, then the alignment. Also, you are due for spark plugs. And while you're at it, do the crank position sensor o-ring gasket. Power steering hose leak at the reservoir may simply be the clamp, not necessarily the hose.
