Check engine soon light came on after putting in Borla exhaust

Hey everyone. Fairly new to the mini scene and was hoping for some advice here. I brought my 05 mini into the dealership 2 weeks ago because of the check engine soon light. They reset the computer. Resetting the adaptation or something. So that worked out well.
Then i installed my new borla exhaust and a 15% pulley. 2 days later the check engine soon light came back on. What is the problem here? Back to the dealer?
I brought it to my friend the first time and he got the code p2096 which was lean mixture. He told me to go to the dealer cause his computer couldnt reset it.
Is this going to be a major issue and problem for me? Any input and adice would be much appreciated. Thank you all.

The 05's and 06's have and extended warranty for known faulty O2 sensors. Could be that's what's happening in your case.

Or, could be an exaust manifold gasket leak too. Check the gasket at the post cat o2 sensor as well. It's right next to it. If you didn't use a new gasket when bolting up the Borla, you may have a leak there as well.

Any Scanguage II should be able to clear that w/o a trip to the dealer I think but you may have to have the adaptive values cleared.

With my exhaust, I will throw the P0130 code once every couple of months or so. It is very specific and repeatable. I need to warm the car, park it, then restart. It never comes up otherwise. It could be the fact that the gas passes the sensors faster, or a heat/cool thing. It seemed like you didn't get the second code yet and they could be totally unrelated. For me the answer was a scanguage and I just reset it as needed.
A lean code would be more worrisome for me. Burning lean can have bad effects, so I wouldn't want to just reset and forget that code. It may be a bad sensor or it could be an injector, but that issue needs to be sorted out if that is indeed the second time you saw the lean code.

The dealership said the o2 sensor was fine.
They checked the car for 2 days. My friend did a smoke test few weeks ago maybe he should do it again for leaks.
The car runs fine. I hope it doesnt become a major issue.
He said he'll scan it again.
I dont think i will mess with it anymore lol

I've had the same issue with my MCS and Borla exhaust, just no lean code. It throws an emissions code.

My Mini has always ran fine and the previous owner said the BMW dealership told him it was a result of the exhaust and not a major issue.

What I did was buy a scanguage and clear it when it pops up. Seems to happen about once every 6 weeks or so. Just when I figure it will never happen again, it does. Not a problem though. Clearing takes about 30 seconds.
