Radiator Leak.
Hi, I did a search of the forums but came up with nothing.
My MCS has just completed It's break in at 3 weaks old.
I noticed that my Radiator Coolant overflow was empty. I had a look underneath and saw that the underside if the radiator was blue with dried coolant and there was a little drip of coolent right in the middle. Topped up the overflow and drove to work this morning and re-checked, It had drank a little of that too.
I'm probably going to take it for repair on friday but in the meantime has anyone else had a problem like this?

My Coolant reservoir tank was leaky. It split at the seam and was loosing coolant, but not fast enough to render the car immobile. I took it into the dealer and they replaced it under wty.

I had the same problem on my MCS. For me they said that the compression clamp on the hose that connects to the bottom of the coolant expansion tank had failed and that they had seen this on a number of MCS's. Fixed under warranty and no problems since.
It seems from other forums that the MCS transparent expansion coolant reservoirs often leak at the seam. But I have an MC, not MCS, and no leak there can be found. Love my MC--had it since July with little trouble. This weekend the engine overheated without warning (that I saw anyway), and I found it had no coolant in the transparent expansion coolant reservoir. Picked up some coolant from Mini dealer, then drove my MC to them, but no leak can now be found--any ideas? what is going on here?
I checked and the seam is good. There is no leak at the top. I did a bit of crawlig round with a flashlite and a mirror and I'm pretty sure its from the bottom right hand side (left if looking from front) of the radiator somewhere. Anybody know if there is a pipe attached there?

In the 4 days since I noticed the leak to taking it in the leak had grown worse.
I took it in for service last thursday and got it back friday Evening.
The technition was very good and kept me informed, He was going to replace the water pump but after removing the supercharger and seeing there was an O ring in there too he decided to have a new O ring overnighted to the Dealership. Hence the two days. Both Water pump and O ring replaced and no sign of an leak.
Looking on the MINI2 forum it seems that other people have had a similar problem.
Lessons:
Keep an eye on your coolent level.
If it's low check the underside of radiator block for signs of a leak.
If you do have a leak book a slot at your dealership.
If you have to drive, get a jar of pre-mixed coolent you can keep in your trunk to top up coolent.
You may know the following already but it's worth repeating:
NB: ONLY TOP OFF COOLENT WHEN ENGINE IS COLD. the system is under pressure when warm even when the engine is off. You could get a nasty burn.
NB2: Coolent is sweet but highly toxic and evaporates slowly. Household pets will lap it up! Wash away any puddles and keep Rex away.
This problem seems to come at about 3 weeks, It's worth everyone checking.

Emergency, my mini is up on the rack. It's been leaking radiator fluid and overheating. My wonderful mechanic tells me the leak is not from the radiator.
He thinks it might be an O-ring but doesn't think it's the water pump which is on the opposite side of the pump. Any ideas?
