I have an R53 that had a switch placed in it to turn on the radiator fan on high without the car being on. This means the wiring has been spliced and cut into. I am trying to sort out the mess myself but need some help on color codes for wires and what they do.
On the drivers side of the car under the hood there is a small wiring harness that I'm guessing is for the fans. Can anyone tell me what they all are? color coded?
Here is a picture of the wires that were spliced into coming FROM the car.
Right now with the switch removed from the inside the radiator fan doesn't come on at all no matter the temperature. I have a 2006 R53.
I'm trying to figure out how many wires come from the radiator fan and how many come from the car and which ones from the radiator fan go to which one on the car? I THINK I see three from the car and four from the fan.
God, I hate getting a car that has been hotwired by a previous owner...
There are 3 wires going to the fan - and therefore, 3 wires through the harness plug in the area that you have pictured. I don't recall what the colors are, however two of them are the same color (I think red/bk...), but thicker and thinner; the other, the odd color (brown, I think), is ground. Fatter of the matching color wires is full 12V (unrestricted by the fan resistor) directly to the fan motor; the thinner of the matching-color wires goes directly to the resistor (mounted in the fan housing from the factory) and then down to the fan motor. These two power wires come from the engine-side fuse box, and they each have their own relay so they're completely independent of each other.
