Location of crank sensor?

I think I've located it- is it the one with multiple wires coming out, and it sits inbetween the a/c lines and the supercharger tube, about halfway across the engine? I need to replace my o-ring, so I just want to be sure what I'm looking for. I have pretty bad oil consumption, and there is oil on the bottom of my pan, and loads of sandy/dirty gunky oil on the front of the engine around the area where this sensor is. The car doesn't leak while sitting, and I'm losing probably a quart and a half per 3k miles. Oil doesn't appear to be accumulating anywhere else that I can see.

You are in the right area. You will need to pull the radiator out a bit to get to it.

I had to do the same thing to mine as I lost a lot of oil that was as well.

Here's a pic from last month. The leak you see was coming from the supercharger intake gasket. Both the dipstick tube o-ring and the CPS o-ring were still sealing fine.

Mine was a leaker......swapped out when Greasy's Garage replaced the Supercharger and the plastic SC intake hose......if you are able, an inspection of the intake's green gasket where it meets up with the SC would be good. And if you have high mileage, I would inspect and maybe think about replacing the radiator hoses same time.

OK so I am looking at the right connector.

I have about 107k on the car. I have the crank o-ring, so I'll inspect more when I replace it. Seeing as I already have it, I'll replace it wether it's bad or not.

And dont forget, this green gasket too. Mine was toast with less mileage than you have.

Very good info. Thanks! Can I replace the supercharger tube gasket with the radiatior only in service mode, or does the whole front have to come off?

Yes you can replace the supercharger gasket, or as we call it the Green seal with it in service mode. The crank sensor Orings are pretty cheap too. Also verify the oil pan gasket isn't leaking we see more of those than anything else.

Good idea Way. Before I was on these boards, my oil pan gasket was toast. Pan removed and got an excellent cleaning in a parts washing maching. Came out like brand new...only regret was not just replacing it with one of your baffled oil pans.....next time

Well this morning I took it all apart, and inspected. The bottom of the intake tube where the gasket is, was wet. Since I didn't have a new gasket I RTV'd it, p ut it back together, and also replaced the crank sensor o-ring. I'll see if the RTV holds, but if not I'll just replace it one of these days. How is it possible to lose so much oil from the vaccum side of the supercharge duct? I'm losing oil at a rate well over 1qt/3,000 miles. I couldn't really see anything else leaking. The front of the engine is just caked grimy, oily dirt. The bottom of the pan is wet, but it does not appear to be coming from the rear.

when replacing the crank sensor o-ring, does the oil in the engine need to be drained first?

No need to drain engine oil.

sorry, one more. since it's advisable to pull the radiator for this install, should I pull the hose and drain it first?

If your coolant is not due for a change then just slide the radiator support forward on your M8 by 100mm bolts ala 'service mode' and voila you can access the CPS.

In service mode for other reasons / projects, and mine too is leaking. Has been for a while, so figure that I'll finally address it now...

Since a new O-ring will fail again, should one even bother if RTV is getting used anyway? I'm contemplating a good clean-up, RTV, 24 hour cure, then re-assemble...

EDIT / ADD: I decided to get a new o-ring as they are just 2 bucks, but had to wait a couple days for delivery though... Between that and some high temp "make-a-gasket" RTV, I should be good to go. The photos above were quite helpful, thanks.

I have a leak up there as well. Same for me, but about 1quart of oil every 1500 miles. It leaks but never drips. I thought it was the crank sensor but now I'm suspecting the SC intake.

What is the round hole for in the side of the block in this picture? Is there a gasket for this that should be replaced as well?

Your not going to lose oil from the crank case via the SC intake tube other than normal oils from the pcv.

That's the coolant passage from water pump to block flange.
