Plastic Hood Scoop Shroud
Plastic Hood Scoop Shroud
Hey Guys,
I was wondering if that plastic piece attached to the hood scoop under the bonnet is actually functional. I removed the hood scoop to paint it and reattached it without the plastic shroud. Is it worth the effort to put the thing back on?

If you're running a stock scoop and intercooler/cover, then yes, it may make a difference to you. The piece attached to the inside of the bonnet helps create a direct path for air to flow directly to the IC. That piece has (or should have) foam strips that make a seal against the cover of the IC, thereby funneling the air directly to the IC.
It's an air flow efficiency thing that helps cool the air going into the cylinders. (cooler air is air that's more dense, and contains more oxygen, which creates more power than air with less oxygen.). If more power matters to you, then put it back in.

While it is the stock hood scoop, I have an Alta air diverter on the intercooler so that provides a pretty similar function. I'll check to see how much of a seal it makes, but if it looks like its touching the hood, I'll probably leave the piece off
The Alta is/was designed so that you had to remove the stock Plastic parts.

Check the seal on that Alta diverter with paper strips through the scoop , removable putty or baby powder , you will probably have to shim it up to have the foam seals do their job.
