Has anyone else had this problem? I have found a few times that I will be driving at say, 40mph and come to a stoplight. As I am sitting there waiting for the light to change, my MC feels like it is going to stall...I feel like the engine is shuddering. It never does stall out, but it does concern me. If anyone else has had this problem, please let me know!

How weird! It freaks me out, too. I ordered 6/1, build date around 7/15, I think and took delivery on 8/23. Let me know if you do take it in to the dealer.

I will....my build date was only about 3 days before yours! I wonder if that has anything to do with it.....

This happens to my MC too...

I have been calling my Service dept weekly to see if they have the promised software fix in yet. They say they expected it this week...

I posted previous comments about this under "Mechanical Issues":

************************************************** **********
8/20/02 --- They're supposed to have a software fix in September for the "engine sputtering/ almost stalling on deceleration" problem.. that's what my dealership keeps telling me. The problem is most noticeable when running the A/C at full blast on hot days...
************************************************** **********
9/1902 --- I am still waiting on the software fix that MINI has promised is forthcoming. My dealer keeps saying it will be available soon.

I have this same problem, as do many 5-speed MC owners it seems... Like GilasMini said: On really hot days, when I am running the AC on high and come to a stop after either just taking it out of gear and/or keeping the clutch pressed, when the revs drop down to idle, they drop a little too low sometimes, and it seems liek the car will stall (and mine has a couple of times). I am at 1700 miles now, so this is still happening post-break-in.

Mine does the same thing. It seems to do better if you let it run for a minute in idle after you first start her up. I'm taking mine in to the dealer to do the vehicle programming, I'll have them check this at the same time, and let you know if I find anything out. I wonder if this is the same issue as problematic software programming of the drive-by-wire throttle control discussed elsewhere on the site?

Depending on how long it takes before a fix is available, perhaps the low idling rpms are something that could be helped by installing new spark plug wires, such as the Magnecors. Someone who had installed them mentioned that the engine seemed to idle around 50 rpms higher, and more steadily. They're only around $60-70 and supposedly "easy" to install.

Chris, You're right - a couple of people have mentioned that the problem cleared up for them after adding the magnecor cables...

And.. I bought some abut a month ago but haven't installed them yet. I guess I'm just being stubborn about this. You shouldn't have to add aftermarket parts to solve a problem on a NEW car. MINI knows this problem exists, and has not yet come up with a solution. I want them to fix it.
