I've got a TEENSY, TINY rattle that will inevitably send me into a murderous rage. It's along the driver's side door. If I push my arm against the door as I drive, the rattle goes away (as does most of the feeling in my fingers).

My question: What type of screws holds the interior door trim in place? It doesn't look like a common screw to me. I'd love to be able to tighten up the trim myself.

Thanks from me and the potential victims of my ensuing murderous rage.

In case you're still wondering...they're Torx (35 and 40 I think). Just get a nice assorted set and you'll be covered as you go around tightening everything, like I did

SarcuxKSU,

The rattle you describe below sound a lot like mine, but mine is not the OBD II cover. I've been searching for a good explanation for my behind the dash, "broken spring" rattling noise, but I haven't found it yet. Got any clues?

>>Luckily, I opted to skip out on the sunroof (never been fond of the things), but I already do have an annoying rattle (It started with only like 130 miles on the car! ) right behind the steering wheel, somewhere deep within the darkest labyrinths of the dash. Anyone else having this problem?

I had the same hard-to-find rattle jds had- rear seat latch on the driver's side. I too wrapped the latch bracket w/ some thin foam, and the rattle was gone. The dealership fixed it later on, and found some others rattles in their search I hadn't yet noticed. The one noise they can't eliminate is the very, very high pitched hum caused by the recirculated air control at higher speeds- 75 mph or above. This one was also hard to figure out, but I finally discovered the recirc control connection. Once the hum starts, turn off the recirc light, and it goes away.

Wow!
I guess these rattle issues aren't new one's...
my rattle is in the dash, on the drivers side, by where the dash meets the door.
From reading about other minis' rattles it seems I'm not alone on this problem. Should I take it to the dealership or try to solve it myself???
It is so frustrating.

I have a rattling sunroof that I took to the dealer and was told that because I had an aftermarket exhaust and suspension there was nothing that they could do about the rattle. I'm waiting for it to get worse (and it is) before I go back and have an arguement. My rattle is at the rear of the sunroof and most are at the front. I've heard that there are adjustments but they have to remove the entire headliner to get to it. I think they are hoping I'll just go away Ha!!!

Oh good lord...I really feel for you SoCA MINI owners who have to deal with these absolute peabrains, rip off artists, and general jerks posing as MINI dealers in your area.

Give me a frigging break! Half of all MINI owners with sun roofs have rattles. We don't all have modified exhausts and suspensions. Furthermore, my dealer sells and installs aftermarket exhausts and suspensions. So, blaming sunroof rattles on modifications and then refusing to fix them is just plain BS. Call MINIUSA and complain!!
