The RATTLE from H---!
Hey All,
In the past year I have had my mini in the shop four times. Not a good track record in comparison to all of the other new cars I've had in the past 10 years (I'm impulsive, and trade often). On each of the four visits, among the other problems was always the SUNROOF RATTLE. On the last visit (1 week ago), they replaced "a spring". It's much worse than ever. The dealership is 60 miles away and virtually never has a Mini mechanic that works on Saturdays. If you've EVER navigated Nashville's interstate system, you'd NEVER forget it. I HATE going to Nashville, for that reason. Anyway, on the way home from the Y today, the rattle was SO unbearble that I opened the roof, just to allow the wind to drown out the rattle, despite the mid 50's temp. The rattle vanishes with the roof opened. So, here's my question: The rattle that I have always presumed to come from the cotrol panel; could it be the plastic "flaps" that fold under, when the roof is closed? Before I get out the electricl tape, I just wanted to hear from any of you who may have resolved the issue? If it's the glass and plastic vibrating, perhaps some felt tape would at least ease the racket. I'm telling you it's the loudest car noise I've ever heard from a sealed car-unbelievable!
Your responses are appreciated!

It's not an unusual rattle. I'm surprised your dealer didn't fix it the first time. The simple solution is to look at those platic deflector flaps you mentioned. You should be able to see a slight "rub mark" on each flap. That's where they're rattling against the roof when closed. Simply put a length of the fuzzy portion of a velcro stip on each rub mark, and it should stop your problem. At least that's been the solution for most people. Hope it works for you, too.
Cheers!
