Can`t fill up gas properly

My MINI is one month old and I`ve attempted to fill up the gas twice now. Both times, as I`m pumping the gas, it would always shut off like the tank was full. Of course it isn't though. Takes me forever to fill the tank and even then, I have to kind of guess when to stop. So, I usually don`t fill it up all the way.

Anyone else experience this?

kind of... i dont give up persay, but you just have to find the sweet-spot... dont cram it in all the way the flow needs to be 'aimed' into the tank it seems

some people have just had certain stations that just wont work good... have you tried only one?

The shut-off has to do with the handle not the car. As is posted above try to not put the nozzle all the way down.

It might be related to your fuel tank - tanks have something like a carbon filter or carbon canister where you pump in gasoline - these can go bad usually when people overfill the gas tank (such as squeezing the gas handle to squeeze every ounce of gasoline into the tank), but I'd expect they can also go bad on their own too. Try other stations/other pumps and if it happens with pretty much all pumps, something needs repair.

I've had some problems with the pump shutting off early as well, as well as one instance when I overfilled the tank and got a bit of gas on my shoe... you just have to be conscious of how the pump nozzle fits into the gas tank. Over a few months, you'll get a feel for it.

So, it's not a problem, just a quirk... but you might want to slow down the pump speed when you think you're close to a full tank to keep your shoes dry!

I've had similar experiences when filling up my MCS at the pump. I have messed with the angle and depth of the nozzle, but I learned rather quickly that the best approach for me is to simply use the slowest flow possible on the nozzle. This allows me to not have to worry about the nozzle shutting off constantly throughout the fueling. It takes a little longer to fill my car up, but it's better than the alternatives.

Best of luck!

Have had this happen since new. Just pull it out a short bit and it works a charm for me.

As Tex and others have said, it seems to be related to how far you shove the nozzle in, my '09 Clubster is the same way. Pull it back a bit and I can run at full speed and it fills it right up.

F56 (JCW) Produced from 3/2014 to 7/2014

SITUATION
The fuel filling nozzle turns off repeatedly while filling the fuel tank, regardless of the pump being used.

Defective service valve located within the fuel tank assembly.
The service valve mechanism can stick closed at times and restrict the vapor release to the carbon canister while filling with fuel.

My 2020 MCS has never been able to take a full tank of gas.

From day 1, my brand new Mini Cooper S has never been able to take a full tank of gas. Sometimes the pump continuously shuts off. But mostly it shuts off with the tank about 7/8 full. I’ve been talking to Mini Product Services about this but the pandemic has kept me from bringing my car in for service. Very frustrating only having a range of 265 instead of the 365 of my old Mini.
