Turn signal stuck on!
Turn signal stuck on!
I have a 2008 Clubman and decided to clay, wash, and polish it today. As I was wiping off the polish from the hood, the front passemger side turn signal lamp came on by itself. The key was out of the ignition at the time. So I started the car played with the turn signals, headlights, etc. and the front turn signal would not blink but stayed on no matter what. I ended up unhooking the battery for a couple of hours and hooked it back up and it still came on. So I unhooked the battery so it wouldn't be drained and that is where it stands.
Is there something that I am missing or is there a short somewhere? The closest dealer is over a 100 miles away and I would like to avoid taking it there if possible.
Thanks in advance for your help.

take the whole side scuttle off then unplug it from the back . To take it off just open your hood and push the whole thing strait towards the open hood area you will hear it click.......goodluck ......
Only the front passenger side turn signal bulb is on constantly, it is not flashing, it just stays lit regardles of whether the car is on or not. I finally figured out which plug to pull so the light is off for now.
The car only has 10,000 miles on it. It just seems strange why this just came on by itself while sitting in the garage, If this were to happen overnight you would wake up to a dead battery.

I don't know if this will help you PW, but I knew I had read a while back about something similiar to your situation.

Thanks, I just tried that and that does turn the parking lights on and off as described. Kind of a neat feature but I'm not sure what you would use it for (one side at a time).
My problem is with the turn signal bulb on the front passenger side-it won't turn off unless I unplug it. Since I have unplugged it, I have no right turn signal of course and the left one is flashing real fast. I guess I will call the dealer tomorrow. Do you know if they Mini gives loaners?

Our Dealer does, but depending on which Dealer you use, they may or may not offer Loaners. Call before you take it in, that way you will now for sure.
And let us know what the resolution was that way if some else has the same issue they will be able to enlighten their Dealer!!

I had this exact same problem yesterday. I washed, clayed and then polished the car. As I was wiping off the headlight assembly, the drivers sider blinker cam on (constant, no flashing). I noticed there was a lot of static on the headlight lens. I don't know if this had any relevance. I ended up removing the bulb. I hope this is a easy fix, I don't want to leave it at the dealer for days.
I didn't take the bulb out, just unplugged it and put electrical tap over it.
I'm scheduled to take it in on Wednesday to the Mini dealer in St. Louis. I described the problem to the advisor over the phone and he stated that he had never heard of this before and it could be a short. I'm going to have them adjust the sunroof while I'm there too. It seems to be excessively noisy, especially when it is windy out.

PWClubman,

In Europe (probably UK as well), it is a legal requirment that cars parked alongside the road at night (where there aren't separate parking lanes) have their road-side parking light on. Their roads are not nearly as wide as ours.
There's no real reason to have it on US market cars (no more than having a dinner plate-sized speedometer in the middle of the dash, anyway).

Wow, it seems we all have one thing in common! We waxed our MINI and I am betting the static causes the BCM(body control module) to short.
I did this to mine today and wow is it frustrating! I tried disconnecting for a few minutes with no luck resetting it. I tried 30 minutes with no luck either.
