02' "s" ac not blowing cold

ok so heres the dilemma

right now the the Hvac controls in the car have a lil issue (im in search of a replacement unit ) the circulation option is constinitly on? green light lit and it wont turn off

anyway when we turn AC on it doesnt get cold i have checked the pressure and it say around a 100psi indicating warning

im guessing theres a blockage somewhere or not

all help diagnosing this would be great

also when i turn ac i should hear it kick on in the engine bay but at last i dont notice any real change again im guess due to the blockage assuming there is one

thanks

edit

i check the fuse and relays and fuses are good the relay however not sure how to check them but they look ok i suppose i reseated all of them

these were all in the engine compartment if theres more please let me know

and for sure the ac is not kicking on when i turn it on definitly cant here the compressor so im back to the original idea of BLOCKAGE just dont know where to start resolving that problem

thanks
again
eric

Generally, in a car that is 6 years old with some possible 70,000 miles on it that blows hot a/c and compressor doesn't kick on, used to mean a bad A/C seal, and thus no freon, or 134a in the system.........When there is no refrigerant in the system the compressor will not kick on.

100 psi or 1.0 lbs?

I don't beleive the AC hoses can withstand 100 psi. not sure what you are registering there......usually refrigerant is measured in Lbs. and our probably takes no more than 2-3 lbs for the entire system.......

If you are registering 1 lb., it's low. Most places will not refill the system until the leak is located no matter how small the leak is. They can use dye in the system to locate the leak, and fix, then refill with R134a.

Good luck

Try a coolant recharge kit at your local auto parts store. I think its possible to have pressure and still be out of coolant.

I think the high pressure side can withstand 100psi. the average hose for air compressors can withstand much higher.

well i tested with teh kit i had bought to recharge my other car

i put the pressure gauge on the well only connector it would fit on driverside the one farther back towards firewall ( even tho they are both near the front but like 5 inches apart and the rear one is down a lil in height

anyway im going to get the firestone A/C check done today

according to my gauge it goes up into the red area stating 100psi "warning"

update

just got the system checked from firstone

no leaks freon is ok

they said electrical

so i am getting a replacement hvac control from a guy on these forums

because my air recirculation light is always on im guess theres more issues in my unit

am i correct in thinking this may be the culprit seeing as how the fuses are all good

A/C check

To check the presure in a car, the car has to be on and the A/C on full blast. If you are reading 100-150 psi at this point...RUN! The lines can hold this pressure, but the pressure DROPS when the car is on to the 30-45 psi range. Therefore, if the car is reading this while running, the native state would be in the 300-400 psi range, way beyond the line's ability to hold--and it'll kill the compressor.

At my store (I run the largest Advance Auto Parts store), I have a recharge kit with hose and guage (that tells you when you're good) for $20 this month.

Happy cooling!

Bill

huxley

when i checked i had turned the A/C on in the car but alas the compressor wasnt on

i did use that pressure gauge from that recharge kit and it was in the red area

however i did get it professionally check ( well firestone checked it ) and said freon and pressure was good but that i had a electrical issue ?????

as i stated earlier i am awaiting a new/used HVAC control unit for the dash area of my car since somethign is wrong with it

but if anyone haas any other suggestions i check to see why my compressor isnt switching on i would greatly appreciate it

thanks guys

Well...it COULD be a relay. You say that you just looked at them to check and see if it was ok. Really, just looking at it doesn't tell you much, especially since its probably in a sealed black little box. Even when you take them apart it can be hard to see a problem. I haven't checked anything on the MINI specifically, but if you have any other relays that are the same shape and rating as the A/C relay and will fit into its spot, AND they are known to be in good working order...swap the relays and try that.

It normally is not the relay, but you might as well try it to officially rule it out.

If Firestone says there are no leaks and everything is fine that means the compressor is running normally.

What did they say when you told them that you could not hear the
compressor engage?

Could it be a compressor clutch problem?
