Sunroof does not open when it's warm out
test drove an mcs yesterday and the sunroof didn't open
I went to Habberstad and test drove a R56 yesterday. Thanks to this forum, I already knew I didn't want a sunroof. I am tall and value the extra headroom.
The only manual transmission car they had for a test drive had a sunroof, and I was a little scrunched. When the salesman demonstrated the controls, the sunroof stuck.
Sat in a no sunroof car that was an auto, so I know I will fit.
Car was a total blast to drive. Ordered a pw/b with just a few goodies - headliner, piano black, chrome ring, black bonnet stripes, rear fogs, bluetooth/USB, multi-function steering wheel, etc. Should be here in week 26. Trading in a 2001 Audi TT Quattro convertible 6sp manual, and I am trading up in fun to drive. Changed my mind about 4 times in the last 2 weeks on color/roof from brg/b to brg/w to my/w to pw/b with bonnet stripes. Saw a horizon blue/black convertible that also looked sweet.

I bet the salesman said something like: "Ummmm... I swear that has never happened before. I don't know what to say.... that is very strange. The sunroof is a great option..."
Bahahahaha.
Bahahahaha.
Add the stuck sunroof problem to the list of things to get fixed :(. Bought my car 7 days ago, drove around in the nice 71 degree weather today and the sunroof stuck, pushed up on the rear one and it finally opened then closed then opened, got the car moving and it opened. Just got in from my drive and saw the long thread about the issue. This kind of sucks but at least I'm discovering all this stuff right now vs. months down the line.
Guess I'll just have to test all the stuff I can to have it fixed all at once.

But if yours gets fixed... PLEASE give us the details!
Would love to hear about this problem being resolved...
Brought my MINI back to Hassel this morning to replace the roof tracks, motor and anything else that's in there. John the service rep did me a solid and called me about 1:30 PM, when the tech was roughly starting and told me it should be done by mid-day tomorrow since he says its a 5 hour job. I hope the hot, no open issues stop after the repair
Picked my car up tonight, it seems like a completely new roof since my tint is gone. Roof seems much smoother than the original but now I've got some sort of rattling from the roof over bumps. I swear it never fails, well I have to reschedule for the exhaust tip recall and some other minor maintenance so I guess it'll have to wait until then to get it fixed.

The rattle sounds metallic, I found a new looking screw (green plating) in the back seat and I'm wondering maybe if one of the mounting screws was left out. The tech also forgot to plug the mic for the Blue-Tooth back in. I figured it out and plugged it back in. Oh also for anyone that has their roof glass tinted, you'll likely be getting new glass if they change the roof "cassette" as they call it. So its back to the tinter
My sunroof started with that same problem
Hopefully you don't ever have to encounter this issue. Use some kind of lube or WD40 to lubricate the sunroof guide rails. This will help it to keep from binding and chattering. Goodluck.
Apparently MINI is replacing so many of these that they are having a hard time keeping them in stock, same as the chain tensioners
Forgot to report this... Got my new MCS back from the dealer, they fixed pretty much everything I report... though they had to order the brake caliper because of the missing paint.
At any rate, they said they resolved the sun roof issue. Removed the glass redid the grease, seals, and adjusted the drive. Seems to work pretty well now, will keep opening it all week as long as Seattle stays warm.

No problems thus far with ours. We have "Clubbie" a 2009 MCCS with the pano roof, horizon blue with blue top. We keep her garaged at nigt but during the heat of the day she is in the full sun. My wife uses it ALL the time and we have yet to encounter a problem with it. The temps here in the NM sun have been getting to the high 80's with a bump to low 90's recently and still have had no issues. I wonder if it is the ultra low humidity that helps it out.....unsure. Just thought I would chime in. Build date was Feb 2009 if that helps. Keeping our fingers crossed that this will not be an issue!
My sunroof had that same problem just before it went DOA. I wrote a blog on what we did to fix it after it was DOA. Here is the link to my blog: http://zippeegear.com/documents/blog..._id=1215268800

This will NOT fix 07+ sunroof issues.
Our did this the other day for the first time; 2 yrs old and 37K miles. The only thing I had to do to get it to work was rev the engine to create a bit more juice for the sun roof motor and everything worked like nothing was ever wrong. Thus, I would have to say this is more a motor problem and not a track problem, but this could just be me.
You are right, my mistake...
Sorry, you are right about that. My experience was from the occurrence on my R53, but I figured our illustration would shed some light on the whole removal process of the headliner, to access the sunroof motor just in the event your R56 is out of warranty. Hopefully it can save someone hundreds in additional labor cost just for removing the headliner and prepping it for a technician to easily troubleshoot if the motor is the cause of this problem.
sunroofs
my 07 mini s had a similar problem, 2 times the dealer replaced the motor, the motor or acuator wasnt strong enough, they replace that its good to go, dealers know about it wont come clean about it tho ..........

but jumped up smoothly the second time
