I really want an S, but the engine problem concerns me. I'm trying to weigh out my odds. I'll be using the car exclusively in Florida. It does get cold here (30's) from time to time, but for the most part it's pretty warm all year round. Are my odds better for not having this problem living in Florida?

I'm in Georgia; the car didn't make the noise last weekend while in Florida.

Whatever is happening, Mini will figure it out (eventually).

So maybe if I stay south of the Mason Dixon I should be okay?

By the way, I called that salesperson you recommeded. She is pretty cool. She's looking through her inventory for me.

Amanda is very good and really knows Minis; she's fast on the track as well.

My car has made the clanking noise twice in 20,000 miles. Although I don't consider it normal, I'm not going to freak over it. I'm going to document the heck out of the condition and go through channels. As long as we keep clear heads and work with Mini, they'll sort it out. They're motivated; they want to sell lots more cars. And the Clubman just launched.

I test drove a clubman S and base cooper today. They were both very cool. The S clearly has a lot more pep. I also drove a GTI today, which would whip both their butts However, the GTI lacks a certain character that the mini has.

I never had an issue with cold start here in Fla, even on the rare occasion that it reaches down in the ~30-40F for a short period.

Volkswagen? Ugh! Talk about getting a medicine that is worst than the illness itself. Not a fan of VDub dealerships and their seemingly poor service. The GTI is a good car though, but the toyota corolla styling is not to my taste.

Our 07mcs went in for it's 1st svce. & I mentioned a metallic sounding rattle. It turned out to be a flywheel problem ! they fixed another not long ago & knew where to look.
