Tire Pressure Monitor
Tire Pressure Monitor
Uhg, Okay so my yellow indicator light is coming for (what seems to be) no reason at all. about a month ago I had to have a tire repaired because it was leaking, (super cold weather will do that) so anyway, a about a week ago the monitor light has been coming on and taking like 3-6 minutes to go out. I'll fill all the tires up to about 40psi and a day later the light will come on... I'll get out and check the pressure and it will be fine...not low at all...
Whats the deal?
Whats the deal?
Is that a second-generation car, or first? On my R56, I use the nav screen to reset the monitor. Even without the nav system, I wasn't aware that second-generation cars have the button by the parking brake.
No need to apologize. If you go to the forum index, you will find a stock problems folder for first-generation cars. I would suggest reposting your question there and likely someone will be able to provide you with an answer. Good luck.

For the first gen, the reset of the TPMS is done while the engine is running by pressing the button by the handbrake and holding it until the light stops blinking (holding it 10 to 30 seconds...I've had different durations at differend times). Once it stops blinking it will go solid on... lift off the button and wait until the light goes out... maybe another 30 seconds, then it's done.
I just had to do it again last night. It tripped when I hit a frost heave in a bridge, but a quick check of the tire pressure showed no change from last weekends reading, so it was a false. i get that about once every 6 months.

I think tire shops are pretty much on board now.
I installed some new ones and found some info from Beru, posted here:

My 07 was from March, so is there a way to check if it has a TPMS? It shows up in the computer to reset it, but that could just be there incase the car has it. One software package for all cars.

All 2nd gen MINIs have TPMS, that measure tire pressure.
1st gen MINIs do not have a true tire pressure measuring system. The 1st gen cars tire indicator works off the ABS, by measuring wheel rotation speed. If one wheel starts to rotate faster (because it is smaller do to loss of air pressure) the system signals a problem.

On the window sticker it says the car has the TPMS, but it also says it has 17" wheels, and that was switched around at the dealership somehow...it has 16"
So could this mean I do not have TPMS? I kinda hope I dont since I am shopping for new wheels...lol
( i found this thread through a search sorry for posting this on a 1st gen thread
