Rattle help

Has anyone had a rattle in the plastic console near the rear view mirror on the headliner? Any fix or how to get the thing down?

I had a rattle there. The dealer put some felt tape on the passenger airbag light and it went away.

I have this same problem.. It is driving me crazy.. I took it into the dealer, they had it a week and it still has the same problem.. So I took the cover off.. and tried the tape over the airbag light and still had no luck.. If I put just push up on the cover just a little bit it goes away, ... Anyone else have any ideas.....

A buddy of mine helped me put a piece of dynamat extreme inside the plastic piece basically taking up all of the flat space.

Rattle GONE!!!

hmm.. that's idea.. It would be flat enough so the plastic piece can close.. I'm guessing it's the really the weight that did the trick, Dynamat if I remember right does have some weight to it and If it's the plastic piece is rattling against housing in which it snaps into, that should do the trick..

I might have to get that a shot.. Man.. if that does not work.. I'm going to go nuts..LOLOL..

Thanks for the help

Well here is an update for everyone.... So it looks like I fixed the rattle but in doing so, created another problem LOL. I ended up trying the Dynamat... I put one strip right down the middle of it plastic cover so the cover can still close. And while messing around with it one of the 4 clips which holds the cover on felt out.. And I tried everything to get it back on, but it looks like it has to be done from the top which means pulling everything apart. But the good news is... The cover is saying on with 3 of the holding clips... and Guess what,, no rattle.... So now I'm wondering if it was the clip that was loose or the Dynamat but etherway it's fixed.. so now I just need to go back to the dealer and have them fix the 4th clip so it can close all the way.

I have this issue. A slight push up on that little cover and the rattle stops. I'm going to start with some of that foam weather stripping tape, since it seems less sticky/messy than the dynamat. But dynamat will be a backup plan if that doesn't work.

Thanks for the ideas.

as fireproof mentioned, foam weather stripping tape is a cheap option. any auto supply store will have some. i used it get rid of my door rattles after i installed new speakers with some surprisingly strong bass.

I had this problem in a Saturn that I used to own. I went to Walmart and bought some little felt circles that people use on the bottom of nick knacks and glassware that you set on coffee tables. They are less than two bucks, have adhesive on the back and work great for squeaks and rattles! So far the only rattle I have in the Mini comes from the cargo netting.

yes. It's a common problem, and compared to the rattles my craptacular R53 used to make, very minor. there's some wiring up there that can fall out of place, a very simple fix.

well, I went to my dealer this morning and they fixed it!

no charge! under warranty!

they removed the plastic cover, unscrewed some stuff

something about the airbag light being loose?

anyway, no more rattle!

on a related note, they also replaced my license plate holder

it broke from the vibrations caused by my subwoofers

they also lined the edges of my plate anti-rattle felt tape

he informed me to do the same to my trunk liner and clip holes

tomorrow im goin to best buy and paying around $80 to dynamat my trunk

this + felt tape should do the trick hopefully
