Strange intermitent noises 05 MCS

Hi. New to this forum. We have a 2005 MCS that is my wife's modern daily driver (as opposed to her 60 Mini vintage daily driver) that has two strange intermitent noises. We've had the car for 18 months and have put about 18000 miles on it, now showing 26000 miles.

Noise #1 - A relatively low frequency grumble that can be heard at idle. It seems more common with A/C on than off but it doesn't clearly follow the A/C. You can switch off the A/C and it will still make the noise. It sounds a bit like roguh bearings in an idler pulley. This noise has been happening on & off for a couple months. Clutch position has no influence on noise.

Noise # 2 - Happened for the first time in the past week or so. It is a loud, pulsating sound with a little vibration, almost like an ABS system gone mad. Lasts for 30 seconds to several minutes and then disappears. It doesn't seem to be related to brake or clutch position.

Any ideas what these might be? Plan to take it to dealer in the next week but think it is out of warranty on time basis.

General question about site, is there a spot where recall, service & tech bulletins are posted for reference?

Cheers,

Ken

This one sounds like the passenger side motor mount has gone bad. It's fluid filled and it's common for it to leak. I had mine replaced at just over 30K miles. Check out this thread, https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...d.php?t=116181, for more info and pictures.

Larry,

Thanks for the rapid reply. Does this motor mount problem create a noise that only happens occasionally? So far we've only had the noise vibration a couple times???

Cheers,

Ken

In my case, I would notice it during gear change, moreso on upshifts and the occasional throttle tip-in. Since my car is black, it wasn't apparent that the mount was leaking but I did notice fluid on my garage floor under that area.

You should be covered under warranty as you're under the 4yr/50K limit.

Good luck!
