Garage Door Opener

Has anyone had any success programming the convienence package garage door control? I followed the instructions in the manual, and everything seemed to work according to the book, all except for the actually controlling of my door. Is there some limit on how old your opener can be in order for this feature to work? I have a Sears Craftsman, less than 10 years old. Anybody else experience this?

Mine opens the door half the time. Probably something about a dual signal security measure. Supposedly, there is a way to set it for this, but it takes two people. I find it easier to carry the door remote. The location of the buttons on the mirror is inconvenient, to me.

Does your garage door roll codes for the remotes? Did you hit the button on the door opener to tell it you are programming a new remote?

Older "roving" security openers are more of a problem than newer ones. That's probably your issue. I don't have a garage. But, I was thinking of building one so I don't have unused buttons on my MINI.

Mine works fine, as long as I hold the button for a moment. A quick press on it doesn't seem to work but if I press and hold for a couple of seconds it opens and closes the door without any problems.

Mine works fine. My GDO is old and does not have rolling codes.

If your garage door opener is the "rolling code" type you first need to program it to the opener in the vehicle. The owner's manual tells you how to do this. Once that is done, then there should be a button on the opener itself (usually up by the light) You press that to put it into "learning mode", then press the button on the opener in the mirror. You might have to do it a couple of times for the opener to learn the code. Hope this helps.

My garage door opener is probably 19 years old. IIRC, the manual says you need two people to program it for "roving" doors. I live alone and haven't "volunteered" anyone to help me do it. Velcroing the remote to the passenger side of the shift console seems more convenient. It is an easier reach than the mirror.

Mine works fine on 3 of my 4 garage doors. Why can't I get it to work on the 4th? LOL

Follow the directions, exactly, and it will work. It's not a MINI thing, it's a HomeLink thing. I have a HomeLink mirror in my Subaru that also works fine.

Finally got some time to figure out what was going on. My opener is in fact a "rolling code" type. Once I determined that, I researched my model on the web to find an owner's manual. I found one close enough, and to make a long story short, everything works fine now. I inadvertently wiped out the codes for my two original remotes in the process, along with the outside keypad, but I reprogrammed them and all is well.

Thanks!

That's good to hear you have it working now. My door opener is a roller code one also so you had me worried...
