can anyone tell me if i remove the airbag and unplug it will it set the airbags off. also when i've changed the steering wheel and plug everything back in will the airbag light be on and will it need re-setting by bmw?

 

Just my opinion, but I believe you will be safe as long as you disconnect the battery before you work on the system. The system is dumb without power.

 

thanks for the info but will the car loose all it's settings if i disconect the battery?i've been told the r56 can loose memory if you disconect the battery.

 

Settings should not be effected. They are held in the rom of the ecu.

You do want to be careful with the airbag after you remove it. It can still go off if triggered.

Are you going to reinstall a MINI steering wheel? If so you shouldn't have to reset anything. You may get a light on the dash but it should reset it self after being on for a bit.

 

yes i am going to fit a genuine 3 spoke mini sports wheel and airbag so if i'm lucky it should be ok? anybody else out there know any more info about this subject?
