Steering problem?

I was telling the Rocket City guys about this tonight and they said to post here and see if any of you are having the same problem, so here goes. While driving on the hwy, flat surface, without moving the steering wheel left or right... my car acts like it's found a certain groove in the road and decided to follow it, going either left or right all of a sudden Because of this, I have to turn the wheel in whatever direction to correct it. It'll go on for a few miles ok, then it'll do it again. Anyone know what it could be? The car has 24k miles on it and new front tires, that don't seem to be wearing at all.

Is it in the same direction each time or does it keep changing?

Thats called tramlining. Tires are the culprit. Nothing you can really do about it. My new tires (Kumho SPTs) do it pretty badly, ugh I hate them.

My Kumhos used to do it when they were new. In few weeks, the tramlining disappeared. The situation is even worse if you are driving on freeways that are not asphalt; the segment of 405 in SoCal that I take every day has continuous concrete blocks with longitudinal grooves that makes tramlining even worse.
Good luck!

Try getting an alignment. If your alignment is a off, it will make the tramlining worse.
