Intermittent Clutch pedal stuck to floor

Last Saturday while backing my MCS out of the garage i noticed the car "creeping" while the clutch was depressed all the way to the floor. When I took my foot off the clutch pedal it stayed all the way down and still creeping. Turned the car off, tried to "pump" the pedal which stayed down, then finally had to pull it up by hand. Started the car, drove it around town for the rest of the morning and all was normal.
Later on that same day, while driving, shifted into 2nd and the pedal again stayed down....No amount of pumping would get the pedal to return to its normal "engaged" position. Pedal to the floor, still engaged, stuck in 2nd gear, tried to hook it with my toe to pull it up.....STUCK. Managed to limp home, turned the car off, pulled the pedal up by hand, started the car, had normal clutch pedal feel. When pulling the pedal back up, it had a hydraulic feel to it...like when you are pushing a bottle jack back into its housing.....not like a broken return spring. Made a few test drives yesterday and all seems normal.
July '04 build, '05 JCW MCS with 17k mi.
Any thought's....

Clutch Slave cylinder... just had mine done at 31k on our 2005 MCS, common problem on the 05s it seems as Mini North Scottsdale had done four of them the day before i brought mine in. Same day, in and out.

Sounds about right. I was able to duplicate it by holding the pedal to the floor and then slip the clutch a bit to get some heat into it, then it would slowly start to grab more 'n more. Turn the car off and pull the pedal back up and all was well. Is there a TSB for this issue? Have an appointment for this Friday so hopefully they will know what to do.
thanks,

It's actually pretty easy access...

but seeing it's such a new car... Let the dealer do it!

Sorry to hear about the hassle. Let us know how it works out...

Thanks Matt..

I also have the infamous drivers side window squeek and the "click-click" noise from the left front axle on weight change that has been discussed on this forum.....1/2 shaft?.....so East Bay MINI will have their hands full. Just take the day off, read a good book, monitor NAM, monitor the Service Tech's, salivate over the new MINI's and get it all button'd up, good as new.

thanks,
Friday? I called about it right after mine stuck like that pulling out of my garage and they told me to bring it in the next day, no appointment, because it was a potential safety problem or could possibly leave me stranded if it went completely. They work those types of drive-ins into the days work and I had my MCS back the next day.

Just back from EastBay MINI.......replaced the Clutch slave cylinder (leaking), replaced both window regulators (no more squeek) and the clicking is being caused by the brake pads on my Willwood BBK.....rocking, ever so slightly back 'n forth, in the caliper......not the 1/2 shaft.
All 'n all it was a worth while trip...On my way back home 2 hrs after I gave them the keys. to EB MINI.

Add my name to the list...

...of those stranded by the clutch slave cylinder. The symptoms sound right.

I was less than half a mile from returning home last night (in my 2005 MCS w/8K miles), shifting from 1st to 2nd, and the clutch pedal stuck to the floor. I couldn't put the car in gear, couldn't get the pedal to come back up...nothing. So I coasted into a safe location and called for roadside assistance to pick up the car.

The sales department of our local dealership (Moritz MINI) is open today, but the service department is closed on the weekends. They just told me to call back on Monday, leaving me stranded until who-knows-when. So much for taking care of the customer My GM dealer always treated me better than this!

Me too... mine went out last week. They towed the car to Moritz at Noon and it was fixed by 6pm. I couldn't get out to the dealership to pick up the car, so they towed it back to my house (a new program from MINI Roadside Assistance)

Interesting...,, When the slave cylinder went out on my 1994 Saturn SL2 around 100k miles the clutch pedal was normal (except that it was a little easier to depress) but it took a sledge hammer to move the shift stick fully into gear.

Don't bother making an appointment for a slave cylinder problem. Just call Roadside and get the car flatbedded in.

Not driving the car will prevent additional damage to the car, plus if the car is flatbedded in odds are the dealership will look at it quickly...

We had the slave cylinder go on our '05 with about 8k miles on it (may have been less). We're at about 23k on the car and haven't had another issue with the slave cylinder.

Well, just over one year later, and 30k miles, slave cylinder died again this morning. Mini North Scottsdale has a two year unlimited mileage warranty on any repair work they do, so sounds like it'll still be covered, even though im at 61k miles and out of the initial warranty period. It's at the dealer, so we shall see.

Good news, only one afternoon with the Taurus courtesy car... hehe... CoopahS is all fixed again, it was indeed the slave cylinder, and repaired under the dealer warranty since they'd replaced it already a year ago, so no cost to me. But its obviously a design problem or quality control problem in the manufacture of that part for it to fail on such wide ranges of mileage, as reported by different owners here on NAM with the same failure of the slave cylinder.

Had the problem while driving from Chicago to MITM last week. I was in Nebraska, about 20 miles W of Lincoln when the clutch pedal stayed on the floor and the clutch was engaged. Pulled it up with my foot and it worked properly for about 45 minutes, then it happened again! I decided at that point that instead of reversing course to the dealer in Omaha, I would press on to Denver rather than stop in Western Nebraska. Got to Denver with only a few more occurances. Called Ralph Schomp at 7:00 a.m, had the car there at 7:15, was back on the road to MITM at 9:45. BIG thanks to Ralph Schomp Mini in Denver.
