My wife apparently bent one of the rims this morning in the snow. Now the car is stuck up at plaza motors. Does anyone have 1 spare that I can borrow for a day to just get it home? I will return it the next day and I dont care where you live, I will come get it. I just dont want to pay for a tow that long of a distance. It's an 03 cooper S.

I have 3 sets of extra rims and tires, but 2 of them are competition and the other is a summer tire. I wouldn't trust the summer tire in this weather.

I live in Festus also, so if you don't find any other options let me know.

 

The problem is I dont know if that is the only issue. I havent gone and looked at the car yet to see if she bent/broke anything else. I got a guy at plaza who is going to look at it and store the car for me if it snows bad. I will take you up on the wheel if it turns out to be just that. Thanks.

 

So I got one of the bmw guys at plaza to look at the car. Has a bent tie rod, so the tire wouldnt have helped anyway. Had it towed to the mini dealer, I will know the damage $$$$ tomorrow.

 

That sucks, sorry to hear it. Didn't you get that car just a few months ago from Isringhausen up in Springfield? (Just asking out of curiosity, to see if my memory is still somewhat functional...) Hope the financial damage isn't too bad.

 

Yes that's the one. Have had it for 4-5 months. I have not seen another one like it around here although I'm sure there are other black JCW with the wheel option somewhere hiding. It wasn't doing anything down here and when she got up to 270 olive apparently it got really bad. So they called back and there are several things bent underneath so its going to the body shop. At least we only have to pay the deductible now and this car is not leaving the garage until spring.

 

I have a spare you are welcome to use any time you need it. (ie: long trip) it is in a carrying bag. Also I saw one the other night on e-bay, that is where I got mine. And check junk yards, they can find one for you if they don't have one.

Thanks for all your support. I will be attending a drive etc... next summer/ spring when its all back in order. I am a vw guy dont know much about minis but I can see it's the same type of support group that helps everyone out, I appreciate that.

 

Turns out the damage wasnt as bad as they first thought. $1300 was the insurance estimate to replace:

wheel
tie rod
strut
control arm

Hopefully it gets fixed soon.

 

Our son did the same thing to his Sentra on Christmas Day '09 - slid into a curb... and while he didn't damage his wheel, he bent the control arm and damaged the wheel bearings. We took it to a local garage we've used in the past, and the guy at the desk mentioned that our son's car was the third one to come in that day with the same kind of damage. So you're not alone!
