Inspection 1

I had my inspection 1 completed this morning without a big hitch. However was advise to replace my Dunlop Run Flats 195/55R16 on my base Cooper.
Only 25K on my mini and they wanted a rediculous price of $1153.65 to do the job. I does't take much to say, Are you nuts? So with experience out there on your Auto Cooper that is your daily driver, what tires would you conisder from the tirerack.com or offer another option that you had great experience with?

I would like a tire with much longer tread life, a smooth ride and good handling. Since I don't have a spear, is it crazy for me to not get a Run Flat? or do some advise to get a non run flat tire?

Thanks for your input,
Craig

I tossed the runflats and got

Yokohama Parada Spec-2 for $97 ea on Tire rack.

I have a can of flatfix just in case.

But they handle much better and ride much quieter than the Goodyear runflats I had. They wanted $1200 for a set of those.

What was involved in your inspection 1 and how much did they charge you?

Mine is due in 6500 miles

I'll save Craig some typing and refer you to this post with what is inspected in Inspection I. If done during the Maintenance period (first 3 yrs/36,000 miles) there is no charge for the inspection, but there may be charges for repairs, alignment, etc. not covered by warranty. Once the Service Interval indicator shows less than 1,000 miles you can get the inspection done.

It was done without a hitch. No Cost. I think I nailed down some Kumho Tires on Tire Rack. I'll probably get them sometime before fall and get a few more miles on my current set. Tire Racks Kumho's are 59/per tire. Thanks for all the info.

If you have the base Cooper you should have a spare. Mine is an 04 and I have one. Ditch the runflats and go with normal tires.

I went with the Khumos. I have the SPTs with a treadwear of 320 and also a set of the ASTs with a wear of 400. I bought them on EBAY mounted and balance on ASA black or Silver rims for $700 a set no shipping when bought thru buy now. Have 15,000 miles on the ASTs with no problems and have 6 PDXs and a year of Solo on the SPTs which show hardly any wear.
