Autocross on dirt!

The second rallycross event in San Diego is scheduled for Saturday, 9/23 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds (Solana Gate off of Via de la Valle). I went to the first one in December, and it was very entertaining to watch people run their cars - everything from stock rental cars to race-prepped WRXs - on a dirt autocross course. I'm sure driving was even more fun, but I don't know many MINI owners who would be willing to put their cars through such abuse. This should be a great day, and its free to park and watch.

I can't think of anyone who would do that in a MINI! It does look fun though.

I'm going to be there (taking pictures, not punishing my MINI). Not sure what my exact schedule will be, but I rented a nice telephoto Canon lens, so I'll be the one with a lens covered in blue tape (I don't want to risk returning a dirty lens and end up having to buy it!).

 

wow.. this could really breath new life into my tacoma that i've been planning to sell. perhaps rally-X competition vehicle?!?

But either way i'd love to come down and see first hand this rally-X trend thats sweeping the nation!

 

do they allow ride alongs? and how many other mini owners will be going, other than bee and myself?

 

Most of the cars I took pictures of had passengers (I don't think you need a navigator on such a short course!).

It was good getting out there to meet with you. Glad that i didn't take my cooper out there or else it would've gotten dusted like me, mycar, my clothes, etc etc...

Hope u've gotten ur coop cleaned up since then :P

 

I used to rally cross my wrx. Almost entered ROTW in '02, but wasn't able to get all the safety specs installed in time. I'm tempted to pick up a used S for this purpose.
