July 16th | LA BMWCCA Auto-X | CA Speedway
July 16th | LA BMWCCA Auto-X | CA Speedway
The next Los Angeles BMWCCA Autocross is July 16th at California Speedway
You must be a BMWCCA member ($40 and totally worth it for the Roundel magazine and the chapter newsletters). You will need to show proof of current membership status. Your BMWCCA membership card would be preferred, but a current copy of the Roundel with your name on the address label OR a print out of the confirmation you got from joining BMWCCA online would also work.
Cost for the event is $65
LOCATION: California Speedway
The autocross will be in the Green Lot, but you should plan on entering at Gate 1 (on Cherry)

NOTE: California Speedway has either a 10 or 15 mph speedlimit on the roads inside the speedway property. There is a little bit of leeway on that, but security does try to enforce that (by kicking people out). At the April autocross at california speedway a spectator left the green parking lot at WOT. Suffice it to say that BMWCCA wasn't happy about that and security did show up (though the spectator had departed).
TIMES: Gates open at 6 AM. Registration starts at 7 AM and is FIRST COME FIRST SERVED. Registration continues until 7:45 or until the 80 car limit is met.
CLASSING:
Starting with this event, there will now be two MINI Cooper based classes (stock and modified). Based on the current L.A. Chapter BMWCCA classing standards for stock and modified:
1. Charlie | madhatter | MCS
2. Dave | MC
3. Jason | xbook | MCS
4. Steve | supergimp | MCS
5. Bob | Recoop | MCS
6. Richard | OctaneGuy | MC
7. Glenn | glnr13 | MCS
8. Jimmy | Andaya | MCS
9. Karen | bar10girl | MCS
Spectators
The cars are randomly put into the four run groups so there should be MINIs running in every run group. First car out is usually around 9-9:30 AM with the officially timed events starting around 2:30-3 PM and finishing around 5-5:30 with the trophy presentation around 5:30-6.

I second that. A fantastic event. Most fun I've had with my clothes on since I was a teenager. While the BMWSCCA might class all Coopers together, the MiniNuts might sponsor our own categories with prizes. (Stay tuned for more details). The crowd is indeed very pleasant, the instructors are top notch and if you have never done this than I only have two words for you: "Do it!". You will feel better about your Mini and your driving skills. So sign up, come out and have fun!
Dave, put T down for a participant and Myself for a jealous cheerleader.

RE: instructors
BMWCCA has their own instruction and to my knowledge only those with BMWCCCA Yellow instructor shirts are permitted in participants cars during the event. They are definitely something to take advantage of for pointers.

Hmmmm....
SCMM Dyno Day or AutoX????
ok....AutoX.
Add me.
And if Scott (krassanova) doesn't show up this time, he gets a lifetime of ridicule - it's practically down the street for him (relatively speaking).

Here is an quote from an email I just received from a BMWSCCA LA AutoX coordinator:
"Glad you had a great time at the autox and with the big turnout of MINIs we will be creating two separate MINI Cooper classes (Stock, and Modified).
"
If that is true than the MCS's and the Coopers would not be going head to head. That way the "S"s will have a chance.

I'll be in MINI Modified.

I added clarification above.
In my case, I would rather try to be the fastest MC and put some pressure on the MCS's for fastest MINI, that try to win MINI stock. I'm not saying I'll be the fastest MINI, but I definitely want to be in that hunt. Due to those goals, I think I'm better off in MINI Modified with the additional latitude it permits.

Uh Oh.......I need to either change my springs back to stock, or drop the spare tire, backseat and anything else that can be quickly removed cuz it sounds like I'm in "MINI Modified"!!
I guess you just gotta jump in with total disregard..............It's time to rock!!!!

No way, you're part of Team Justacooper!!
We dropped our rear seats and spare tire at the pits. I dropped 20 pounds around my waist a few months ago too!
Gotta lose it where it counts!
Since the last AutoX, I've been practicing being smoooooooth every day. I've gotten to a point where I'm matching my revs properly during downshifts, and when I'm initiating turns, I'm keeping the car balanced, and most of all, as my instructor cautioned me---just squeeeeze the brakes. Don't jam them. Hit the slalom like a belly dancer's hips just rocking back and forth--easy and smooth.
I'm thinking of setting up a VacuCam rear camera for this next AutoX to record my backview so I can double check if I knock any cones down during my run.
