San Diego PCA Autocross - Monday June 19th - Hooky at the Q

The San Diego Porsche Club is hosting an autocross at Qualcomm on Monday June 19th. You will need to be either a PCA or BMWCCA member to participate.

Porsche Club "Playing Hooky at the Q" Autocross
Porsche Club of America, San Diego Region is hosting an Autocross - Playin' Hooky at the Q, on Monday, June 19. BMWCCA of San Diego is cordially invited. This is a non-points event and just for fun.

Please be there before 7:30 AM for Tech Inspection. We expect first car out at 9:00 AM All drivers will need to do one session of corner working. Cost will be $40.00. We (PCA) do not provide the lunch, but we will either arrange for a hot truck to be there or will work at providing some type of lunch (If no Truck, maybe we can provide lunch). We do provide water and soda at no charge during the whole day to registrants - and soda, beer and wine after the track is picked up
This event is the day after the Los Angeles BMWCCA Autocross Sunday June 18th at Hollywood Park (Inglewood)

I am currently planning on running in this event.

Hi Dave,

Do you have to pre-register for this event...or can you pay $40 the day of the event?

Joe: there is no pre-registration. Just show up on the morning of the event with your money in hand.

Robyn: Yeah, if you want to spectate, come on out. That would be great.

Hollis,

I wish I was going to be around that long, but I'm probably going to leave San Diego by 3 PM to meet up with a friend up here.

Dave,
Do you have any recomended tire pressures for the oem runflats?
This is my first car with both runflats and front wheel dirve. In the pas I have auto-x a 95 M3 and a 91 MRT non-turbo.

I was just asking Matt (camelpilot) about that here, since he has autocrossed on run-flats.

On my non runflats I start off at 38 in the front and 39/40 in the rear (with a 19mm rear sway), then make adjustments from there, but usually that's pretty close.

Thanks Dave!
What kind of turn out are you expecting. I'm assuming this would be a great event to get lots of seat time because it's during the week (I have to rember to request the day off)

I heard an estimate of 40 to 50 based on a previous monday event. Like you say, should be a good opportunity for a lot of seat time.

BTW, OctaneGuy is coming down on Monday from L.A. for this event too.

We stopped by today around noon. One lone MINI particpating at that point. It was a great looking Checkmate edition in that beautiful blue. He did pretty well, all in all. Except of course when the dip in the porsche spun out and ruined his last curve as he had to slow way down to avoid running into the porsche.

I'll be attending more of these.

Doh!

I forgot I posted this here too. I posted to my other threads last night that I wasn't coming down today (after being totally spent after yesterday's autocross in L.A.). I'm really sorry about forgetting to post here. For some reason i was thinking you were coming to the one July 8th.

I will just be spectating. Shooting some pics of all you brave guys and gals. However, at Qualcomm it was just guys.

I don't have an open wallet at this time, so no funds to do the autocross - tires and all- I will live vicariously through all of you!

That was me. The Porsche club ran a great event. This was the first time autocrossing my MINI (previously I had 95 M3, to be honest, the MINI felt very similar to the M3 except it's actually much more predictable. Even with my 22mm rear sway was set to the softest setting, the car would drift efortlessly through the decreasing radius turns. I may try the middle setting next time).

Sorry I didn't run into you guys, I was hoping to run into some other MINI owners. Sitting in the paddock, one of the event organizers made a funny comment to me & the MINI ... (referring to the car) "Isn't this considered
cheating!" Recieved alot of comments on the car as well.

I was posting great times and am very pleased with the performance of the car...the biggest limitting factor right now are the runflats.

Joe

Only because the engine isn't slung out behind the rear axle.

Glad you had a good time. I'll be down in San Diego for the July 8th BMWCCA event. Hopefully we'll be able to meet up there.

Forgot to mention...the course was very fast. I was hitting third gear in 3 sections (definately a high horse power course!). Towards the end of the event they opened the course for some fun runs. The last 3 runs were by far my best...too bad the timer was not working properly :-( My best recorded time was 122.4 seconds. The modified M3's with racing tires were running 111's...not bad! Based on past expierience
, racing tires are usually good for a reduction of 4-5 seconds.

From my vantage point you were hitting the curves way better than most. You seemed almost liquid as opposed to some of the Porsches (mostly the 914s) and you didn't seem to be so heavy on the brake pedal as others.

Your car is my favorite MINI. So of course you get style points too!
I only wish it had been a choice in '03,.
