Hey guys
Moving to L.A. in a couple days, and I'd like to rent out some temporary (one or two month) housing while I find a more permanent apartment that suits my needs.
I'm thinking maybe a good monthly rate for a hotel/motel room with a kitchenette/fridge, or maybe a short-term studio apartment.
I would prefer the Santa Monica/West L.A. area, but I'm pretty flexible on that.
Safe, off-street parking for the MINI would be important to me.

Any suggestions?
Thanks

  Christian, look into Park La Brea, which is near the LA County Museum of Art. It's centrally-located, and I think it has covered parking. Not sure if they have such short-term rentals, but it might be worth investigating.

Extended Stay America ain't bad. There's one by my house on Ventura Blvd. in the San Fernando Valley which is just a 30 minute drive down the 101 to Los Angeles.

you do not want to live ANYWHERE IN L.A.

especially West LA or near there.
You willl be gouged and it's very trite.
L.A. is trite.

Try the valley, west valley is good.

Stick with your plans to come to Santa Monica. I've been back in L.A. now for about 4 months and living in Santa Monica for three. It is more expensive than the valley, but then again, it's near the coast and it won't be 100 degrees here in July. Santa Monica is an excellent choice given the location of your job (a twice daily trip over the Sepulveda Pass would not be fun).

Safe travels (see your PM's) and hope to see you in the neighborhood shortly.

HAHAHAHA!

YUCK!

oh and Santa Monica is gross too!

I guess Santa Monica is a good place if you are more concerned with your vanity.
Santa monica has a large Transient Population, maybe you'll meet Hobo Willie.
The "thrill" of the ocean quickly wears off, I know, I used to live in venice, before it got all "ganged" out. Lived there for almost 10 years. Moved out of there, it was too gross for too long. I love trees and greenery so I moved to where the grass was greener!

Santa Monica is a great choice- I lived in the valley for 2 years- its like living on the surface of the sun and has no character whatsoever- its like one long strip mall.

As far as housing goes you should be able to find something short term either in Santa Monica or Venice. Good luck and welcome to the West

Beach good! .... valley bad!! The valley is sooo lame! Not a whole lot to do there, unless you like hangin out at the 7Eleven or chokin on smog! The traffic sucks out there too! North Hollywood is okay and maybe Studio City... but that's it! I've lived all over L.A. (including the valley) and I would say that the westside is a great place to live if you can afford a nice place near the beach. There are some affordable places near the beach, but they are mostly dumps! and in questionable areas.

Try looking into Culver City or Mar Vista. They're a little further inland, but are centrally located to the westside. Or, if you're really adventurous, try the Echo Park/Silverlake area near downtown. I had a house there for 11 years. Its a bit rough, but it has a great scene!

Oh my gosh, Oakwood is pricey. The Corporation I work for housed employees from other locations there at $2000 a month for a furnished one bedroom. I would consider eagle rock or pasadena. The climate is nice and the community is probably one of the best in socal! Old Town Pasadena is a shopper's delight!
Lots of prospects in socal, I would consider the options that would tax your savings the least... so you can move in somewhere perfect!
Good Luck to you.

Old town Pasadena is nice, I know a couple people that live there. Nice people, nice buildings and all the shops are within walking distance.
