The "weather" today has got to be one of the freakiest things I've ever seen. Not only is it snowing (ash), the sky is grey, the sun is an unnatural shade of flourescent orange, the wind carries the pungent smell of smoke, and my freshly washed car is now peppered with a fine coat of grey and white ASH!

The sky is falling!

Any worries with ash bits being sucked into the intercooler?

I'm going to be hiding indoors today.

... err, where's the volcano?

Put some pantyhose over your air intake if you wanna keep your car running.

Yesterday I was up in the hills overlooking san fernando valley and my god... the atmosphere looked terrible! It was just like a huge mass of orange smog but it's all ash getting circulated all over the place! It's even windier today, not good for fires... ugh! You guys can notice the white clouds being formed over the fire (heated) areas quite easily, it's interesting but just weird. Oh well, my day is going GOOD to say the least regardless!

Uh, you probably are not from Southern California otherwise you'd know there are firefighters risking their lives to save homes. The winds were kicking up something fierce today making it more difficult to battle these fires.

Rfibanez is correct about the ash. The air is a brownish orange and it is hard to breathe it.
I took the picture below around noon today near Foothill and Milliken.
Everyone was driving with lights on.

Isn't it awful? I went to my car this morning, and the air outside smelled like smoke, and my car was covered in ash! I couldn't believe that it travelled all the way over here. It's really, really sad.

I can only imagine how bad the air is at the actual fire sites.

With it smelling like a giant bbq, I wake up every morning expecting a giant pile of meat!

You think you've got it bad. I've got a soccer game to play at 1pm today. I'm taking a gallon of visine with me and I'm going to walk on the field with one of those masks that painters use to keep the fumes out of their noses. We can't believe they haven't cancelled all games.

Oh, and my MCS is staying at home thank you.

Ken

we had some ash and a little smoke this morning in Santa Monica. I feel for you guys inland. It reminds me of when I lived in Colorado. Last year there was a massive forest fire south west of denver. We had smoke in the city for about 5 weeks.

The red sky is really creepy looking, and the smell and ash coming all the way to my area is surprising to wake up to. I've been watching news stories all day long seeing the panic and confusion from yesterday's evacuations... it's really heartbreaking to see all of these people losing property and unfortunately lives as well.

my thoughts and prayers go out to all affected

San Diego county has had some of the fastest moving fires I have ever heard of. 110,000+ acres burned in a day.

A picture from La Jolla this morning before it got really bad.

It's pretty scary. The High School up the street is the local evac point, and the winds are blowing all over the place, so we're packed and ready to bug out, if needed. Bad news: we have five primary vehicles to evac, and only four drivers! - Brooksie might have to be sacrificed, along with all the garage cars - 3 Minis and the Honda S600. Sh*******t. Here's hoping for the best! Wish us luck.

I hope that any of you that saw my post on Mini Talk titled "SoCal" didn't take it as serious as everybody else. It's had about 5,000 hits but no replies. Have a sense of humour people!!

I do games over in San Bernardino county and Orange County...the fires here have burnt down hundreds of homes. Its just sad that some wierdo with a match would want to cause so much destruction

Last I heard she was okay. Got an email from her today and she didn't really mention much about the fires.
I can imagine how things are her way though with things still not over.

Aloha from Hawaii.....

I'm so sad to hear about the terrible fires. I hope you all are safe.

I'm supposed to come out to LA and San Diego next week Thursday (11/6) for 6 days. do you think it'll be ok for me to continue with my vacation, or should I cancel? I'm brining my 8 year old and will be traveling with my brother and his young family. We were planning on visiting Sea World, Dland, Universal Studios and Legoland for my sons birthday.

What do you folks suggest? Go to Cali.....or stay in Hawaii?

Hope the fires let up soon....take care of yourselves!!!!

Mahalo!
