A lot of people everywhere are watching and hoping that things don't get worse in California. I've been through the Oakland fire in 91, and I know from experience what you all in Southern California are dealing with.

Keep well.

Just a heads up...clean your car as often as possible and keep it inside or covered as much as possible.

The last time this happened I was living in Northern California and the ash will absolutely destroy your paint finish if you're not careful.

Hi, keikilee. You ask a question that does not have an easy answer. At this point there are still flight delays in and around Los Angeles. The main air traffic control system was shut down for a couple of days due to the fires - that caused a huge backlog, nationwide. It has re-opened but there are still delays. By next week most of what there is to burn will probably burn out. But if it were my decision I would probably not venture to So Cal for a vacation next week. Over 1,000 houses have burned in So Cal with several hundred (thousand potentially) more still threatened. 3 Firefighters and more than a dozen civilians have lost their lives and things are not over yet! I live in OC so I am pretty safe for now, at least, but I have friends and relatives to the north and to the south who have been affected. I have lived here all of my life and this is the worst that I can remember...

Well, we usually welcome tourists but this time it would be best to cancel.
As Robby said, a lot of people are without homes.
The more tourists come in and take up hotel rooms, the less there are for displaced families.

Thanks for the info.....I appreciate it, and am so sorry for what you folks are going through.

I'll be postponing my trip to a later time.

I hope the fires go out soon and that you all remain safe.

Mahalo and Aloha.

For what it's worth...I just looked out the window and it's raining. No, I mean it's raining. Waterlike rain.

Keikilee, I'd not cancel the vacation. Get over here. As if any of this lot on here would cancel a vacation to Hawaii if there was a problem over there. You are not talking about the entire State being homeless. There are plenty of rooms available.

Of course I'd give Big Bear a miss if I were you.

Ken

While rain is definiately a good sign....I think my best option is to cancel and reschedule for the spring. My family and I have bad sinus problems and allergies, and I'm afraid we might be miserable due to the smoke.

I'm giving myself until Monday afternoon to cancel my reservations....Let me know if things are getting better (smoke/ash/mood). Maybe I'll end up coming after all.

Thanks for the info folks. I appreaciate it. Again, I hope you all remain safe!

Aloha!
