I resent that comment. I am a mature conservative individual that thinks my car is cute.

Okay that's not entirely true. If you knew me offline, you'd know that I was neither mature, nor conservative.

You can't expect everyone to have the same type of MINI love that us enthusiasts embrace. But there are times when you come across an enthusiast and they totally take you by surprise. Don't stop waving.

Last weekend dave and I were in Carson visiting my folks. We were stopped at a red light and a LY/LY MC was driving by and we saw the passenger pointing and grinning at us. We waved and the guy waved back with a really huge smile on his face. It was as if we had totally made his day.

Your status is superseded by the fact that you're an enthusiast of the Mini Cooper... I thought that was made quite clear in the Mini Cooper Rule Book Chapter 97 Article 184 which states..

"The status herin set is determined within two categories; wavers and non-wavers. Wavers are then sub-categorized into two which are either Enthusiasts or Easily Amused. Non-Wavers are then subcategorized into Girls Who Like Cute Cars or Mature Sensible Conservitave People."

Come on people... lets keep this proffesional.

Saw 2 MCS's today on Azusa ave. The dark silver didn't return the wave, but the blue/ black mcs in the other lane, and a couple cars ahead, returned my wave. Haha, I saw him looking for the wave. :-)

Yeah I believe the whole "wave" has died a horrible death. Sunday (23th) I cruised from Ventura through Kaman, Muholland, Sunset Blvd to Carney's and saw about 12-16 MINIs of all colors and styles (most of them on Sunset from Santa Monica to W Hollywood) and no wavers, even one CR/W MCS who thought I was from Mars (I am a BIG waver). Today, going from the beautiful IE to the High Desert I saw 5-6 MINIs, two waves: DS/W MCS in Riverside and a BS/W MC EB on the 91....I'll still wave when I see you, if no wave in return I'll loose about 3 fingers

SO many Mini's..

I used to count the number of Mini's I would see in a day.. and pretty much get waves back from everybody....

NOW I see them all over.. a quick trip will produce at least a dozen.. but no waves...

sad..

i think the wave has really gone away in some regards...case in point...was on the 15N after exiting from the 8W....lady and i guess her man in a AB/AB MC pull up alongside me....i look over and smile and give a wave...she turns her nose up at me and slowly pulls away....ok being snotty is one thing but just because your car is "made" by BMW doesnt mean you get to attain the BMW "attitude"....

oh and on that same stretch of road i had a PW/PW MC with a car full of teenage girls(most of them with a phone glued to their ear) actually revved on me! lol and this is after i had the alta intake and magnaflow exhaust installed so the reply rev was something more than they were expecting because even the phone talkers stopped and gave me a slack jawed look! lol

I think there's a big difference between the people who consider Cooper as a MINI as opposed to the people who consider the Cooper a BMW.

And, I honestly don't know how I feel about the 2nd Gen. I've so far had nothing but bad experiences with them... including the finger.

Wow that's amazing. How can a MINI owner be such a bitter f*&k?

I'll keep waving to Classics, 1st Gen, and 2nd Gen and hope for the best. If they choose not to wave back or respond with a table for one, I will let them wallow in their sad existence.

I got flashed (high beams) by a Chili Red MCS yesterday in Walnut. Looked like he was enjoying the twisty road like me.

Flashed my brights at an AB/AB R56 with dark tint all around, this morning in Irvine.

I too have noticed the lack of waving back, esp. in Orange County. In the 3 weeks I have owned my MINI, I have not had one person in Orange County wave or even look at me for that matter. However, the one time I went up to Santa Clarita (LA County), the only MINI I saw waved to me before I could. Maybe new MINIs are getting too common so people stopped caring... cause I still get waves when driving my dad's '68 Cooper S. Oh well, I will just keep on waving.

I saw a Chili Red MCS on El Paseo in Palm Desert on Friday night that had a SCMM sticker.

I am visiting the area and went for a nice drive up Palomar Mountain but didn't see any Minis there.

Yesterday I saw and heard a Pepper White with an exhaust driving through Sun City but it was in the distance.

That is where I am staying so if you live there say hi.

I got a neck snap from a R/W MINI on Imperial Blvd. He also had white bonnet stripes and the checkerboard roof. I don't think he waved (my wave consisted of sticking my arm up in teh car ) but I was amused and pleased at his reaction.

+1 I try my best to wave at every MINI/Mini I now I barely get any reaction from the driver, but then again every now and then, I get people who are surprised and a little conversations can be started up at any given signal light about how much we both enjoy our MINI or Mini!

The only "twisties" I can think of in Walnut are all just really high-speed rolling roads, not so much twisties. But there are so many freakin cops out there... I wouldn't.

Lemon has some twists to it... Let's say twisty in terms of normal city driving.

I am also a waver under most circumstances. The best return I have had recently was a young lady in Oceanside heading to San Diego just before Christmas. She also had a CR/W like mine except that she had an option I haven't seen on the factory spec sheets.

ANTLERS!

They were cute and she gave a big grin as we both headed down the I-5.

I think this is probably the best use I have seen for the "sports team support flag" mounts that roll up in the window.

If you wander over to my neck of the woods or around San Diego you should get a wave or a flash from me. Soon I should have my REAL plates with my handle on them.. Have to work on the DMV to speed them up a little.

Jim

I actually know of a few twisties in Walnut, but they are quite dangerous...

I got a honk and a big enthusastic wave from a CR/W MINI the other day while cruising through Mission Bay on Ingraham in San Diego. It may have helped that I was driving my Red/White '73 Innocenti...

:-)

And yes, I did wave back. What's sad but no longer amazing is that I can be sitting at an intersection across from a MINI in either my '04 MCS or my Inno and give them a big wave - and get a blank stare in return.

I in a 2nd gen and try to wave whenever possible. I usually don't get a wave back, but I do occasionally. I got compliments from classic 911 drivers yesterday on Mulholland. I did see a few MINIs and gave the wave. Though I don't think I got any back. Generally the twists up there don't allow to check for the wave back.

Exchanged waves with a nice blue mini north on the 5 through Mission Viejo this afternoon - I think the plates were JVMINI, if I remember correctly....
