SoCal MINI Spottings - Point Check Here!
WooHoo for breakfast!
Yesterday along southbound 605 on my way to SCMM breakfast I spotted a blue/black MCS (not sure if IB or newer shade) between the 91 and 7th Street exit. After catching up I waved and so did driver.
I thought they were headed my way also but he kept driving west on 7th while I exited at Studebaker.

That was My friend and I... we were on the way to the SCMM breakfast, but wanted to stop by my friends house (she lives right by the university). My friend gets very excited when us MINI owners wave at each other.
This morning around 8:30am, on El Segundo Blvd until Douglas (where I turned left and he turned into his workplace) I saw a guy driving an IB/W MCS with the black aero grill, a "whiptastic handling" badge on the back and I know I've SCMM carded you once -- dude! I waved, you stared!
Anyways, HI again from the girl in the DS/B MCS with the SCMM sticker on the back. Hope we can have a proper waving session next time !

This morning, saw a pepperwhite MCS with aerokit--couldn't tell whose cause you were like 5 cars away on 605S around 9:10AM and just got a glimpse---just past transition of 605 and 91. Tried to catch up to you, when out of the corner of my eye, noticed a large black and white American vehicle on my right side--yeah a CHP---I made a dumba$$ panic move and locked up my wheels just as I came alongside the CHP...fortunately, she had bigger fish to fry and went on past me and caught up to you (don't know if she was after someone in your pack...) as I got onto the 91E.

couple days ago, going south on sepulveda, i saw a dark grey with silver top and U-stripe. driver was in his 50's i think. i waved, didn't get a wave back. but i'm sure he saw me. he had a NAM decal too!
Today at a mystery survey location, saw a S/B MCS with cool R9something wheels. License plate LIL MIS H.
I suspect I was sitting next to you in the waiting area. I was one of the late arrivals.

Rather impatient CR R56 MCS driving behind me early this evening as I turned onto Cardiff from Washington Blvd to get into the structure by BofA. I hope all that speed helped you get onto slow-moving Venice Blvd..
About 6:30 this evening saw a Black /White roof 1st generation MINI Cooper (non S) pull onto Orangethorpe and get on the 91 fwy westbound right in front of me near ValleyView. I was right behind her at the light to go past Valleyview and she didnt notice me b/c she seemed to be frantically looking for something in her purse or bag of some type on the passenger seat. The Blk/W Cooper had 2 distinct decals: 1) white apple logo on the drivers side rear window and 2) some sort of motoring badge, couldn't read it as i did not have my glasses on but it was in the shape of a gear and had some sort of checkerboard pattern on the inside with some words. Oh, the car also had an antenna ball, white one if i not mistaken.

If so, it's a Motoring Hearts badge.
Got a wave from an older gentleman in a CR R56 in the West LA/Brentwood area.
Got another wave from another gentleman in a Classic Mini as I was turning onto National/Palms from National Place. Same Classic that my boyfriend and I saw a few months ago (Euro plate = DBCOOPER). Dude if you're on here.. your car looked and sounded awesome. I think my MINI wants to be like yours when it grows up.

Thats what I always say to myself and then have a good chuckle

Edit: just noticed this is my 100th post!
Old Town Pasadena...Mini Cooper Central!!
I went to Old Town Pas last week. Parked in the Schoolhouse parking structure. I went in with another Mini, passed 6 while looking for a space, 2 more drove by while I was standing at the light, another passed me while I was walking down Colorado, and I passed another while exiting the parking structure a couple of hours later!!! I couldn't believe how many there were. We should do a cruise down Colorado before they close it up for the Rose Parade on December 31st!!!
Yah, the whole waving thing is starting to trickle off... long ago when the MINI first came out, the majority of people who really got it were the people who were excited about the car and who knew the great things about it. Nowdays I see teenage girls get them as their first car cause it's "cute" and mature conservative people get them because it's a very practical car that has good gas milage; both of which have no real intrest in the cars personality or meaning.
When you wave at these people.. they look at you like you're retarded for a moment.. and later realize why you were waving, and then tell their friends about it later with a sentence that starts with.. "I saw the craziest people today..."
My car is obviously modified... so I hope people would recognize me as an enthusiast. And oh yes.. I wave... I wave like I've never need the use of my hands again.

I see about 5 to 7 MINIs every day on my way to work. None of them are wavers. There are a bunch that work at or near Chiat Day in Marina Del Rey that I pass but never wave, several who attend Otis or near Otis, and on the 91 freeway every morning--I pull alongside them and no acknowledgement--and keep on going. It hasn't trickled off--it died off a long time ago!

Well then there was the geographic regions that had more wavers than others. I remember complaining about this back in 2004 that the affluent areas seemed to have the least number of wavers--Pacific Palisades, Santa Monica, etc.. which is the route I used to work near--people were able to afford these cars as "toys"---they weren't the enthusiasts that were on 1 year waiting lists thinking, dreaming, and modding their MINIs before they even arrived, and chatting it up on the forums here.
When I did my roadtrip in the fall of 2003 (flew out and drove my MINI home)--Tennessee to California covering 11 states--that was the most incredible journey of my life--where I got thumbsups, waves and cheers from people of all ages not even in MINI's everywhere I went.
Those WERE definitely the days where owning a MINI was of almost like "celebrity" status---outside of California, lol.
