SoCal MINI Spottings - Point Check Here!
dark silver r53 at UCLA parking lot 3? I always see it there.. and then a couple of days ago I saw it had a parking ticket on it, and now I dont see it anymore. Had quads. It was always on the first floor, I saw it as i walked up to the 2nd floor where i park.
405S, North of Sunset? I always wave, but I agree, they are pretty rare at that time.
yea i wave but there is never a response back and if there is lol it isnt a wave its just a strange look like im crazy for waving.....
the 405s around the culver city area right before the LAX....2 ride with me all the way to orange county every day and still i get no wave back :(

That's where I drive as well--Culver to OC--and never get any waves--despite passing atleast 6 MINI's every morning, lol.
I still like to drive up on MINIs though and see if they wave. A couple of days ago, I got behind a Purple Haze MCS and soon found a PS Cooper --3 of us driving along and nobody waved--well I looked over and gave the peace sign to the guy--the girl in the PH was gabbing on the phone, and the guy in the Cooper seemed pretty much--look "Who the F** are you looking at??" kind of attitude, lol.

There are a lot of people out there that buy a Mini just because they like the way it looks and for the good gas mileage. I think they probably look at it as just another car and not the way I/we do.
I realized this the other day talking to a girl at a taco place in Brea, she just bought a new 08 CR Cooper but really had no clue about specs or features of the car, the culture, NAM or anything. She bought the car because it was cute, in her price range and got great gas mileage. So I still wave at everyone, but I just don't get disappointed anymore if I don't get one back, because for those people it's just another car.

Yesterday was my first day as a MINI owner, and I got a wave on my first encounter... not at first, though. I looked as I was passing a PS/B and they were deep in discussion, but they caught up a minute later to wave. It made me, and my grandmother who was my passenger, very happy.
Grandma then tried to get me to race. Crazy old lady!

Wow, I've never seen someone so anti social before with the whole waving issue. I was driving north about 8:30 this am on the 73 toll road (near Laguna Canyon) when I saw a CR/W ahead. I weaved (wove?) through traffic, and pulled along side. No eye contact at all. I moved forward, changed lanes in front of CR/W (she was leaving a substantial gap - I did not cut her off), and tried to wave again. No response. I then moved into the fast lane (she was in #2) and sped up. With traffic, she caught up, and we stopped right next to each other. I looked over and she stared straight ahead. No fun at all.
I don't want to generalize or stereotype, but it was a new R56....

Don't mess with the over 60 crowd (I'm not one of them), cause a lot of times they've got the money and time to make their cars kick ***.....

Hmm do you have a beard, mustache, or facial hair?? lol. Actually my memory isn't that great, but I thought thats what I saw. As far as I know, I'm the only Jet Black Cooper S that drives that way during that time. I saw the same Purple Haze girl (white roof) this morning. I dunno, kinda frustrates me--I was about 12 cars behind her--everyone was on their bumper cause it seemed like there was a ton of traffic, then as we approach a curve--we see there's the Purple MINI at the front with no cars like 5 or 6 cars ahead of her--and again, everyone is packed in front of that car... I eventually passed her, but drives me nuts when people (MINI owner or not) drive slower than the flow of traffic when they could choose ANY other lane that is already going that slow.
Ok, one more pet peeve to voice--and this all comes from the fact I'm driving 100 miles a day and little things get to me. I notice a large part of the population doesn't take into account the RATE at which someone is closing in when they change lanes. The typical driver sees an opening so they move over, for what reason?? They were in a lane that was already going that slow, and they move over into the next lane with nobody in front to slow them down, yet drive at the same speed. The considerate driver see's that I'm closing in, waits until I pass, then changes over--and everybody is on their merry way.
I wish that California drivers drove more like people in every other state that I've visited which uses the #1 lane as a passing lane. Ok off my soapbox--I know this is the wrong thread of this...
re: MINI Groups
I have a club with members all over the country, but we aren't very active...c3club.org. Might try SCMM.org.
