Can I be a mod Mark. I'm almost always lurking around the site and I follow the rules. I'm asking because I'm tired of all this crap floating around and it's late at night and none of the other mods are on (not saying you guys should) to clean up the crud, I guess I could run the late night (and graveyard most nights) shift. You dont have to make me a mod, I'm just tired of it all, I want stuff changed now, late at night, but no one is here to do it. No offense or harm meant.

Rant/Blabber/Question Asking over

I know you would, did you get my PM about my thoughts on the CD. Anyways...

Wouldnt it be great if we had a democracy here and elected new mods every now and then, it reminds me of the ancient polis.

I don't understand why this is a thread and not a PM.

Lol chrisnl, I dont either. Now that I've thought about it:

I guess because it wasnt just for Mark to see but for anyone who read it, letting them know Im tired of all this rubish floating around the site. I really dont want to be stuck over on MINI2 and Sunshine MINIs only, they're both great sites, but not as great as this one... was.

I think you've touched on some decent ideas here. As there is limited moderation tools in the current version of the site I'm holding off making any moderation changes until we get to the new platform. I expect that this will be in October. When we get there I don't think a democratic process is a bad idea. Take nominations, I'll do confirmation like hearings just to make sure each candidate has been in good standing and can uphold the guidelines and processes we'll put together, and then take a vote. I would suspect it would make sense to do this on all the most heavily visited forums.

Thanks for the ideas!

Mark

I mean no offense rfibanez but I don't think this isn't an issue that Mark just woke up to. This is something he deals with on a daily basis. Since working with Mark on various things I have just have to say that he is one of the most straight forward, honest people I've dealt with in this realm. He goes to great pains to not take sides and is overly fair in everything he does for this site. I know most people don't have the benefit of seeing a lot of this first hand but I'd like to at least do my part to let more people know about it.

Of course I think this thread does a good job of showing it as well.

I believe you Gabe, but it needs to be demonstrated and not just done off-line if it's really going to have a positive affect on everyone here. Hmm.. I'm not sure I phrased that the way I meant it to be! LOL!

What I'm trying to say is that MINI owners are true individuals, like school teachers. The best way to deal with individuals is to give them a way to voice their say. We're all adult enough that we can say "fair enough" if it doesn't go our way, it's the lack of any kind of visible due process that gets my dander up and I think other people's too.

We didn't see or hear of the warnings to Ryan or Doug. We did when it came to 2cool4school and so it was no surprise when it happened, and no one protested. We were all glad to see him gone. But Ryan and Doug were members and now they're not, with nothing in between those two states so it feels weird. I now feel paranoid and much less likely to post just for the fun of it.

If ever it comes to a vote for new mods, I would cast a vote for minihune. He know's the MINI and plus by him being in Hawaii, he can watch over the forum's late into the night, because when it's late on the mainland, heck, Hawaii is just setting down for dinner.

I agree MiniHune would be an excellent mod. I have never seen him biased. Not once.

yes, but as we all know this can be hard in several aspects - if you start warning people in public it is surely going to get more people into a tuffle. Additionally we all know how busy mark as been lately working on a new site, running his car at nationals, and dealing with the MINIUSA issues...oh btw he has family as well that I bet start to wonder if he is still alive from time to time.

Hard? It would be as easy as starting a thread in off-topic such as "We've had complaints about so-and-so for such and such. Please add your thoughts in defense or in agreement and what you think we should do about it."

Especially when it's such a gray area as two posters who never said a bad thing about anyone.

This isn't appropriate for off-topic as it is site related. I understand your frustation but I NEED to be able to get to the new software platform so that we will have tools in place to find, elect, and support moderators across the site. To get there I need to cut down on the issues I have been forced to deal with for the last month...and this was the first step in that process.

*I met minihune personally yesterday at a SCCA Solo II event. He's a good guy  .

Mark: I thank you for MCO. I've met a bunch of really good people locally via your very site. Things are real cool in our neck of the woods ...

I agree that it seemed sudden, and I would still like for Mark to clarify why Red03 got bounced--I see that he did an insane amount of posting, and often it had little value, but that could be said of anyone from time to time. I'm guessing that there must have been a LOT going on behind the scenes in his case.

But as far as Mighty goes, I don't think that you can say that he was a poster "who never said a bad thing about anyone." He had a real habit of ripping anyone just because he was in the mood--or because he thought that their stereo was weak (see the 320 HP thread). I think that this is the primary reason for him getting kicked. The previously mentioned thread sums it all up, I think...a trail of 10 word posts--and posts that were mocking what a lot of us were very interested in. It was irritating to say the least, and I think that it could definitely inhibit the meeker members among us from posting something cool that they might have done to their MINI, for fear that someone could mock them...

But that's all just my opinion...

Speaking of mods though.....

The Who's going to run... thread is a perfect example of mods not being objective. There is a lot there that could be on the edge of questionable or is questionable. A few of the posters were reprimanded and others who are allowed to continue on with innuendo. I began reading the thread and I think the third line down was offensive to me, I decided then it was not a thread for me to participate. (What I am not aware of is if the flames went through pm's. If that is the case then it is abuse for certain. I would have difficulty being objective at that level.)

On another occasion a user (well known) posted a picture that was pornographic. It stayed up for over an hour. I pm'd all mods to no avail. I did receive a later pm (from one mod) asking what all the fuss was about and being told it was an honest error on the part of the user. I accepted that. But was still amazed that it happened. The rule should be if you can't see the pic you're posting because you post and run then don't post it.

Mods can't be everywhere, but we need mods somewhere all the time to be able to reach in the event of a problem.

I would say 2c4s was the first step

I just started this thread to ask a question and maybe have a place to throw around ideas, no more talk of red and mighty, they were dealt with and Mark has justified himself many a time.

I would be quite interested to see how elections would pan out. Throw some manner of ostracism in there as well to keep Mods in check, it would be quite interesting and fun.

Just to keep tabs on it, add max 100 posts viewable, no gears, and show the date you joined, you could show the actual number of posts you have in your profile.

I was also thinking about this rating idea that was brough up in the other thread. I think a good idea is to have the ability to rate users or threads, BUT the only person able to see it would be yourself. So lets say someone says something that is offensive or wrong, whatever, and you give them a bad point, only you can see this, but if they say somethin good then you could give them a good point and we could come up with a new scale that means something, that way you could keep tabs on people as to what they know etf...

And while we're at it, lets borrow a little from MINI2, subscriptions to threads with email notifications are good.

Site wide polls would be fun as well.

Anyways, I'm not trying to just pressure you with a bunch of ideas Mark, just putting them out there and maybe one day they might get implemented after tweaking and what not. What do you guys think about these ideas?

We need mods somewhere all the time? Please say it aint so. We're all (ostensibly) grown up enough to afford those big monthly payments to BMW. Surely, we're mature enough to go unsupervised on a web-site for a few hours, for cryin' out loud.
If a thread takes a turn for the worse, I move on to another thread or sometimes I even log off. Crazy, huh?

lol stovepipejones, I cant log off, I cant leave, Im addicted.

We dont need mods on here all the time, it's just that Im usually up late and I never seem to see one on (although MINIclo has corrected me and said she is usually on till 3am western time) and I cant leave as I said, I just want that stuff resolved asap instead of having to look at it.

I know Im stupid! My girlfriend tells me so and thats part of the reason she loves me so

Read my first thread SPJ. In a perfect world people would know the rules and folow them. That's how I'd like it. But it has been proven time and time again - the masses need babysitters.

If democracy will decide some of it, please know I want to be a mod. This is not a PM so that you all can see me and keep me in mind.

I do admin several other forums. PM me and I'll point them out to you.

LOL xanthus, it hasnt even been guaranteed yet, save your campaigning for a while. I would like to see a multi step process to it.

Nominations

Voting (not a poll, unless you could guarantee that one name could vote only once)

And then a 'conference' type thing with Mark to see if he/she could be trusted and what not. And perhaps he could review their 'history' on the site as well to see if they qualify. Or perhaps it would be a board of sorts, all the mods and mark instead of just mark.

Ok, those were obvious.

by the way, nice security system, although his voice isnt quite there yet.
