UPDATE: Dual tip two weeks from today! MY apologies, but it is out of my hands. Shortage on metal or something was the explanation I got.

Oval Tips Shippin!

Do the Oval Tips sound much different? I would expect a slight difference. Also I guess there's no difference in performance.

Nice option, by the way. Would love to see it on a car.

No change in sound that I have noticed. I have the Stealth version on my 08 R56 Lloyd that I am finishing how-tos etc. but wont' have that done until the weekend at the earliest.

You don't happen to have any pics of the oval tip installed, do you?

I don't to publish yet. I have it on my personal R56 in black, but haven't shot it yet for my latest round of how tos. I can say it looks sweet! Also, The mule I believe has it on it, and is at AMVIV this afternoon. Maybe a show goer might be able to check it out and report back to us all as to how they felt?

The pictures show one pipe from the back of the muffler for the oval and two for the dual-tip. Is the exit pipe for the oval tip larger to make up for only one? I was wondering if there is a difference in flow of exhaust between the two tips as this could affect power.

Good question. The flow is the same. We increased the Od to compensate for the changes. Plus no restriction of the splitter like in the dual tip.

Thanks again!

I knew you would have thought of that!
I have now changed my back-ordered dual tip for an oval tip

Is there a significant weight savings over the stock system?

I have a question: I read in an earlier thread that the exhaust smells weird for a little while after install. If all goes well with shipping I'm looking at late April for delivery of my cat-back. I need to get a new sticker in May. Should I wait until after I get my sticker before I install the exhaust? Or will it not matter.

Alta Catback Noise VS Turbo Back

I want an exhaust that sounds close to stock at 60-80 MPH. I've heard the JCW exhaust and Alta Turbo Back but I think I want an Alta Catback but have not heard it

Scale 1-10 for noise at cruising speed

Stock 1
JCW 3
Alta TurboBack 10

How would you rate the Alta Catback for noise using this perspective for comparison.

Not much as the larger plumbing of the ALTA system is 3" 304 Stainless Steel. Thanks for asking!

The ALTA cat-back is VERY quiet on the freeway. Only makes a tone when you have your foot in it.

Lets chat via phone as you have posted this in several places and I want you to get the right answers.

Thanks again!

Just finished the installation - it was easy and took under 2 hours. I put the back of the car on ramps and jacked up the front to put a couple of bricks under the front wheels. Not the suggested 24" of clearance but enough to work with. I removed the center bracket and was able to cut 3/4 through the ipe with the sawsall. That was far enough to bend it down to cut the rest.

Here are the photos:

I don't have a way to get sound clips but it sounds just like the other clips of the dual tip. It is not loud - just deeper. The single tip means there is a 3" pipe going straight from the cat to the back with nothing to block the flow - I am not sure why it would be quieter - perhaps the lack of interrptions to the flow keeps the air moving smoothly. My buttometer tells me there is definitely more power! I think it will look best when the inside of the oval tip has gone black from soot.

Sorry! I mean get an inspection sticker. As far as emissions goes, will the break-in of a new exhaust make my car look like it's running "dirtier" than it really is?

No not at all. Totally different stuff and 50-100 miles is all that is needed to burn it off. So no stress my friend!

Ignore boo boo in the top of the tip. I took it out of the sellable batch for use on my car. Shipped versions of course don't have that!

Thanks for looking!
