Drivetrain Just installed Alta Catback
#27
Does anyone have anything to note regarding the performance gains of this catback exhaust? I've heard about the tips, whether their level, kudos about the volume level, whether they look cool, etc. Is that the thing these days, sound and fury signifying nothing? All bark and no bite? It's kinda messed up, these cars are sold to the public without speed governors to top out at 140 to break highway speed limits in under 7 seconds, yet we're not allowed to talk about racing. It seems to reflect a sensibility of denial, a refusal to admit that we all break the law, race, speed...it's like refusing to admit that we don't always hold in our farts, or like not having trash cans in public.

Um, the performance gains of the ALTA catback AND turboback exhaust have been discussed into the ground. It's not JUST about making noise.
Check the ALTA website for dyno charts of almost ALL their products.

rattmobbins: Thanks for jumping in here before me! I can confirm that the tip placement is up to the client. You can have it farther forward or backward. It is totally level when installed properly. Note: Stainless steel does "grow" a bit when hot, so you will notice the tips will be slightly farther out when HOT vs. COLD.
If anyone has any other questions PLEASE let me know.
Also, quick TEASE, we have a new tip design being tested as well as a new STEALTH series for the R56 and R53. Pics and info in the coming week. Final testing being done as we speak!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

...perhaps a slight upturn as the tips poke out ...a la the old Abarth?

Picked up my '08 MCSa yesterday and one of the first changes I'm considering is your cat-back system. I have a couple questions:
I'm sort of old school about this but I feel that 'the exhaust should be heard not seen'....do you ever get requests for a all black with polished tips system?
The stock exhaust sound pretty good to me. Is your system much louder than stock?
My salesman said that changing the exhaust would affect my warranty. Is this true?
thanks for the help.......

On the other note, I can't comment directly but expect a system to be even MORE stealthy from an appearance standpoint to be released VERY soon!
Let me know if I can help further though!

Full turboback.
I want to purchase the entire system at once which is I was have waited and am still waiting until late January/early February. Figure it'd be best to get all the gains and sound at once.
Initially I was gonna go for just the catback about 2 months ago, then add the downpipe at the end of this month. However I've heard the sound and power difference with the catback alone isn't very noticeable.

So don't rule out going with the catback everyone if it's all you want or can afford. It's an amazing system even without the downpipe.

How much do you think it would cost to to install the full turboback? I know a catback it would probably be about 150. Also, how long/much would you say it would take to install the intercooler? This stuff isn't going to be for a while.Just trying to figure out costs.
