It's time for some off season maintenance, and I need new rotors and pads.
I've done fairly well this year in SM and want to keep pace next season.

EBC Greens are on now... I switched to them shortly after I got the car and before I started AutoX. They've served me pretty well, but I'd like to try something else. Something with a little more bite.

I was thinking of trying the Hawk HPS or the Blues?

Is anyone using these? What are you opinions?

Also, I haven't any idea about rotors. Is it good enough to chew through a new set of stockers as it seems they are less expensive than good pads? Or should I opt for somethign a little better?

I'm still running stock rotors, so I can't help you there.

I have Ferodo D2500 pads which I like alot. They have decent cold bite and great heat tolerance. They work well on the street (they're a bit noisy, but that doesn't bother me) and did very well on the autocross course. They'll also stand up to a track day with minimal fade. They don't destroy rotors.

I'd buy them again.

 

I would say that the HP+ pads would be better than the HPS for autocross, although they do make noise and dust, they are a more agressive pad than the HPS, but they still work great at low temps.

The blues might not work too well for autocross, being a full race pad, they need lots of heat to bite, I've never used them for autocrossing, but I'm guessing that they wouldn't stop the car very well at all for short autocross type runs.

OK, so blues are out, but I was concerned about the noise when I read about them on Hawk's site. What exactly is this noise... not squeeling, is it?

 

The HP+'s do make a squeeling sound under light pressure...like during light brake application as you ease up to a stop sign.....when you are firmly on the brakes they don't make any sound.

Are you looking for a pad to run only for autocross use, or are you looking to run these all the time on the street also?

Well, the car is used on the street during the weekends, but I primarily use it for AutoX. I think the squeeling would bother me, but I might give it a go.

Any suggestions for Rotors?

I've used the Power Slot rotors and Ferrodo 2500s for several years (2 different cars) and found them up to the task for auto-x and street.

Noticeable improvement over the EBC greens and stock rotors that I had for my first brake "upgrade".

They also did pretty well at couple of track days (but time on track wasn't over 20 minutes at any time).

I've always used ATE brake fluid (blue or yellow).

 

OK... 2 votes for Ferodo 2500 - I'll give 'em a try.

Another question about rotors... Do slotted rotors have any benefit for AutoX?

and Are the Cryo-Treated rotors worth the added expense? Do they perform better or just have increased life?

I installed the Power Slots when I first installed the Ferrodos. So I have no specific delta on the slotted rotors. But I know the combo works great, and at the auto-x, I know the limitation is the driver, not the brakes...

At the Dragon, and other twisty courses where the car is pushed really hard, my brakes don't appear to be as hot as others seem to get, and my car is usually the fastest if traffic allows.

Also have never noticed them going away.

 

Been using (and doing well with)

Cryo treated Powerslot rotors front and rear

Ferrodo DS2500 pads front and rear

Used originally for track/driving school/autocross/street

Now used for daily driving and monthly autocross.

Works fine, no noises, moderate brake dust- not severe

Don't forget the upgraded brake fluid.

Cryo rotors not necessary but are more durable for track use.

Avoid drilled rotors when you can- more potential for micro cracks with overheating- OK for street/shows/autocross most likely.
