PAX is killing me- Oh well.

New 2007 PAX/RTF numbers out.

SM class hardest hit in increase of PAX. BSP also bad.

See
http://www.scca-chicago.com/solo/indexes/rtp2007.html

It's been going up every year but more so for 2007.

Some classes PAX is going down. Mod classes and FS, STS2, STX, STU.

Guess I will have to drive that much better to earn my PAX time.

Makes me want to go H-stock or G-stock.
Spend half the money and end up with a faster PAX time.
But wait, both GS and HS got hit with worse PAX numbers for 2007 so maybe there is hope for me.

GS is .803 and STX is only .808?? I am **definitely** transitioning to STX now!

On a sixty-second course, the .005 PAX correction factor difference means that I'll only need to go three-tenths of a second faster in STX to end up with a better overall PAX time. With all the STX-allowed goodies, that should'nt be a problem.

So instead of losing to you in GS, I can lose to you in STX. Oh well, competition breeds excellence, or something like that.

Ah, but in G-stock you can run R compound tires and in STX you run in street tires. In my region the tire advantage is huge for stock classes when driving the MINIs.

unfortunately in our region we're lazy and like driving to the event on the tires i'm going to run there.

when i lose the back seat i'll start bringing event-only tires.

In SM class you can loose the back seat.

If you need to drive to the event and keep your tires then-

You can use street tires- Falken Azenis or Hankook ventis Z212
Or
You can run in Toyo Ra1 (durable enough for some street use)
or
You can use a durable R compound (not STS/STX class) like the Kumho Victoracers.

Normal street tires will also work like the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 or similar.

Pax is still killing me.

I can't seem to make up the difference compared to G-stock MINIs with SSR comp rims and Hoosier A6 205/45-16 tires.

I'm about 0.7 seconds too slow for a 30 second course.

I'm getting about 7th out of 106 drivers on raw time and lucky to be in the top 10 with Pax.

The G-stock MINI in my area comes in about top 15 on raw time and #1 or #2 on PAX.

Oh well, I guess I can still try to have fun while I stare at the boot of a G-stock MINI (like everyone else)

And this is NOT an R56 MCS, it's a 2005 MCS with LSD.

Yep and now that they maybe moving to D-stock that should help a little with the Pax. Granted that SM is not the best for the MINI in saying that what else could possibly be there. Also like most I'm going by Raw times and if i can stay in the Top 5 im Happy or if im the Fastest FWD there

Probably next year, the PAX is going to change for everyone (Minis) except HS. All supercharged and turbocharged Mini's look like they're getting moved to DS.

Within the next few weeks I'll finally be running on R compounds instead of some awful street tires in SM. A few weeks ago we had a mini only autocross school here, and wow was that educational and fun! Lots of seat time. I "borrowed" Mugami's hankook's that day, and it really made a huge difference. After these tires, it's really difficult to say what would be a worthy next mod to help the most in SM... brakes are good, power is there (maybe more power? Can't hurt).. but I'm guessing maybe some springs/camber plates would be next best.

Anyone know what's a good spring to use for AutoX with camber plates? I know with stock springs you can only get but so much negative camber up front.

The Camber / caster Plates and a complete re-alignment wouldn't hurt either.

I do R compounds for the event and switch to street tires (Bridgestone S-03s) for fun runs or for test and tune days. The difference is about 2 seconds on a 30 second course.

Power and brakes are not lacking for most SM class MINIs.

Suspension upgrades, aggressive alignment, light wheels and wide light sticky R compound tires are where the most benefit lies.

Even with all that you need a healthy dose of - High quality driving peppered with generous gobs of skill. Luck doesn't hurt either.

I read you can get more negative front camber using straight springs not progressive springs up front.

George has a decent setup, and we're both "B" grade drivers - here's the GS STX battle so far this year. He's on 'R' of course.
